I first find out what the student wants to learn and then work with them to find a way to accomplish this that is fun and stimulating. Lots of interaction, some backround reading or use of audio visual materials (YouTube etc.) as a basis for further exploration of a topic. Teaching for many years allowed me to learn many approaches that will meet the students needs.

I have taught for my years in public schools at both the middle school level as well as 5th grade, plus much private tutoring over many years. I am retired and have a very flexible schedule.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Piano

I have played and/or taught the piano for 68 years. I have been a public school teacher. I play the piano at my home everyday for the sheer pleasure of it. The method I would teach by would very much depend on the student's interest, willingness to practice and other intangible matters I would assess upon meeting the student.

Prealgebra

I have been public school teacher of 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students in math and science. I am skillful and enjoy math up to precalculus. Teaching eager students to the point where they feel confident on their own without any more assistance gives me joy.
