I went back to college in the summer of 2001 after exploring with a career counselor the possibility of pursuing a science teaching career. We worked together, approximately about two months, administering various personality tests to make sure that teaching science was the road in which I was suited to begin a new career. I was confident and had a strong desire to become a teacher for secondary education students in the study of natural sciences. I was interested in sharing the excitement, stimulation and marvel of the scientific world around us. Natural sciences can captivate, mesmerize and charm students and adults alike. It’s exhilarating to teach science to students at the middle/high school/college level because of their level of maturity. In addition, I became a teacher because I enjoy the camaraderie in a group setting, as well as the self-reliance of guiding a classroom independently. To join together with a middle/high school administration and faculty as a contributing team member, in addition to participating with a student body has been a most satisfying experience. Also, I enjoy teaching secondary education students because I like coaching middle/high school interscholastic sports.
I truly enjoy the heart, spirit and essence of the curriculum of natural sciences. Science holds the wonder of the imagination and a foundation of understanding that all young adults should have the opportunity to open their eyes to. I’m teaching because I want to help contribute to this eye-opening experience. Having taught now in my fourth year, I am captivated and awed by the expressions articulated by a student who understands a scientific concept for the first time. The look has made a lasting impression on my soul. It has enthralled me with a vision of teaching so that I can help facilitate that “look” for many years to come.
I have an innate interest in sharing with and teaching students about the excitement and wonder of the scientific world around us. My fascination with the discipline of science is evident based on the fact that I have enjoyed eight years of education and hold Bachelor of Science degrees in the subject areas of biology and health science, as well as, a Master’s Degree in Middle and High School Science Education. I think I have prepared myself in the most versatile way possible by acquiring these degrees in the natural and social sciences. I’ve worked diligently not only to obtain the understanding of the curriculum of natural sciences, but also, pursued the capability to identify the health and welfare of a student’s mind and spirit through the social sciences.
I am a very hardworking, loyal and conscientious individual as evidenced by the fact that I’ve received these two degrees in a span of four years. I believe that my love of the field of natural sciences is evident based on the fact that I have taken over one hundred credits in the science curriculum area, which is substantially more than is necessary for a bachelor’s degree in biology. I consider that any natural science course taken in college is pertinent to the middle/high school/college classroom. I also believe that my understanding of the social sciences in which I have taken approximately sixty credits, and the health and welfare of the students mind, based on my bachelor’s degree in the area of health science, exhibits my overwhelming desire to be a well-rounded and complete teacher. I assure you that my love for the field of natural sciences has not only radiated throughout the classroom and school, but throughout the community. I seek not only to encourage the student body but also the administration, faculty, parents and community to participate and take an active role in the enjoyment of the awareness and miracles of the world of natural sciences.
I enjoy teaching the natural sciences to middle/high school/college students in the high need areas of New York because I believe that New York is a valuable proving ground for teachers at any level. The training that I achieved through the New York Teaching Fellows Program and the Department of Education of New York City I would deem to be of the highest quality in the world. There could not be a better opportunity to prove your worth as an educator than to carry out the responsibilities, duties and obligations of a teacher in the New York State Educational System. New York educators are some of the most qualified teachers in the world and their reputation precedes them in any area of education in the United States.
I have been a resident of New York my whole life. In my family, there have been a number of my relatives that have taught in the New York State school systems. I feel that teaching is in my blood. Through the career counseling and many personality tests that I have taken, a teaching career has emerged as my life’s endeavor. Teaching is not only a noble profession but also a way for me to give back to my community and society as a whole. I trust that starting my career as a teacher in the field of education in the high need areas of New York City has been a blessing that I will cherish and keep hold of my entire life.
