Greetings, my name is Stacey. For the last several years I have taught grades Pre-K to 3, in reading and writing using technology, during our extended session I tutored one on one ELL students in Rescue Reading, prior to that I taught 5th grade for many years. Throughout my career, I have had several professional development opportunities that have helped shape my philosophy of teaching. I was trained by a group called, “All Kinds of Minds,” following the philosophy of Dr. Mel Levine. Like Dr. Levine, I believe every child can learn. Through those workshops I gleaned countless ideas on how to connect with even the hardest students. As an educator, I first identify each student’s strengths so the student can feel successful as a learner. I then address weaknesses so the student can achieve some measure of success in an area they had been weak in. I was also trained in “Fundations” a Wilson-based program for early Childhood Learners. Additionally, I served as a Reading Rescue tutor for several years. This program parallels “Reading Recovery,” which develops metacognitive skills by making students active participants in their learning.These trainings have taught me to be the expert educator I now consider myself. It is my hope that by finding success for each student, they will become more engaged and the achievement gaps for struggling students will close. I look forward to hearing from you.
I have worked with many dyslexic students over the 22 years I was teaching in NYC. My daughter is dyslexic and I have found many useful resources in helping her become a successful student. She is now in 8th grade and doing extremely well.
I have New York State certification in grades Pre-K to 6. I taught in elementary schools for over 20 years in New York City.
I taught Pre-K to grade 3 in phonics. I used Fundations (A Wilson based program), reading recovery, earobics, starfall and several other phonics based programs and incorporated these into my lessons as I taught students to read and understand how to decode words.
I work in academic intervention in all areas. This requires teaching students how to find information, study and retain the information.
