I have been a math tutor and teacher for 10 years. I began my teaching career with The Princeton Review by teaching and tutoring SAT math. Since then, I have taught in the public school system of New York City and, now, in a private school in Westchester County. I am certified to teach both at the grades 5 through 9 level (middle school) and at the grades 7 through 12 level (high school). I am a very energetic, active teacher in the classroom and I put a lot of sincere caring into the way I tutor and teach. The head of my department thinks enough of me to make me the only teacher in the school who teaches four Honors courses.
I have tutored hundreds of students in math - some as early as Elementary School, through Middle School and into Upper School. Most of my students learn with me throughout the school year - some even continue during the summer break. I tutor students in their school curricula but, in addition to year-round tutoring of grade-based curricula, I specialize in training for the SAT and ACT exams. I have helped students earn high scores on those important, college-entry exams - some greatly exceeding their expectations.

The ACT math section is much more like a straight-forward high school math test than the SAT math section. It tests the students on their knowledge of math subjects up through Algebra2/Trigonometry. Students who have been strong in math in high school can expect to do well on the ACTs. Generally, tutoring for this portion of the exam requires a comprehensive review of the student's high school math courses. If a student has struggled in math during high school, they can still achieve great success on this test - they just have to be willing to work hard and to take many practice tests.
I teach Geometry more than any other course that I teach. I am the only teacher at my school who teaches Honors Geometry - 3 courses. Geometry requires a different set of skills than any math subject up to this point. It is much more of a visual skill. I very much enjoy the challenge of geometry problems and I'm very enthused to help a student see the patterns in a geometry solution. For those of you struggling with proofs, I completely understand. Writing a proof is like building a logical puzzle. I can help you understand and see the bigger picture.
Basically, the math on the SAT is Middle School math – but the questions are hard because the questions are very TRICKY!! If you learn some of the tricks, you can learn to beat the SAT at its own game. The company that makes the SAT is the Educational Testing Service (ETS). ETS takes advantage of students. It makes many of the wrong answer choices look like the right answer choices.
The key to success on the Math SATs is all just a matter of knowing the right way to take these tricky questions apart. Once you can attack them in the correct way, you'll start to see that SAT Math questions aren't really math "problems" in any sense that you're used to. Instead, they're more like games. That’s why you have to prepare for the SAT Math test properly – knowing how to answer the questions quickly and accurately and knowing what to look for in the “tricky” questions.
