As a teacher for 11 years, I love helping students with whom school may pose a challenge. I have a "whatever it takes attitude" and have worked with kids with all types of learning differences. I especially enjoy helping students build their confidence and a love for learning. I have a unique approach to reaching students academically by using fun, creative lessons with things they can touch, taste, and see.

I've worked within private schools, public and charter schools and have a wealth of experience.

I would like to help other understand that learning does not always look the same from person to person and that it is okay to be different.

Learning is fun! Let's explore together!

ADD/ADHD

As a special education teacher I have worked with children for the past 10 years with a ADD/ADHD classifications and was responsible for creating, managing and executing goals for their Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs) towards their academic, social, and emotional success. I have maintained success in working with students with this classification on a 1:1 setting inside and outside of the classroom.

Aspergers

As a special education teacher for the past 10 years, I have worked with children classified as Asperger's and was responsible for creating, managing and executing goals for their Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs) towards their academic, social and emotional success. I have maintained success in working with students with this classification on a 1:1 setting inside and outside of the classroom. It takes a nurturing, patient and understanding tutor to work with children within this social disorder, but I've have a knack in bringing out their special talents.

Basketball

I've played basketball since 4th grade as a point guard/shooting guard. I'm very athletic and work out everyday! Basketball has helped me maintain a healthy living as well as self-esteem and confidence through the years. My favorite team is the NY Knicks!

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a certified teacher. My certifications are: birth - grade 2 general education, grades 1-6 general education, and students with disabilities B-12. I have taught in public, private and charter schools.

Grammar

Affect, effect, they're, their, and there... These words and their uses are often misunderstood. No fear, I'm here to help. As a certified teacher, I love grammar and helping students understand the many rules surrounding the English language.

Phonics

As an certified elementary special and general education teacher, phonics is a daily parts of lessons within the classroom. Specifically, phonics is the base of learning to decode and comprehend within students in K-2. If students pose problems within phonics later instruction is needed but has proven to lead to more success in reading. I've had the pleasure of using different curriculums and teaching tools to help students succeed.

Reading

I am familiar with many curriculums/programs used to test children's reading levels:

Fountas & Pinnell
DRA
Direct Instruction
RTI
ReadWorkds
Balanced Literacy

To name a few...

I also have plenty of reading resources I currently use in the classroom that help push students to achievement.
