I am currently enrolled in a graduate program in Secondary Mathematics Education. I had my undergraduate in Management, but I had been tutoring mathematics for the last couple of years. Also, I have worked with K-12 students and assisted them with better understanding of mathematics concepts. I have been part of mathematics teams and olympiads since I was in middle school. I thought that I just "knew" math but actually my teachers were my inspiration to get to the level I am now. I do have passion for mathematics and over the last couple of years of professional and academic experience I have realized that math can be taught in a way that every child, no matter what their level is, in a way that they can easily grasp important concepts and accomplish high achievements in their academic lives.
In my work with diverse student population, I emphasized on critical thinking, problem solving and making sense of concepts in mathematics. Collaborating with educators in the area and the passion for mathematics have been powerful tools that have encouraged me to pursue a career that can make a difference in the future of many citizens of our country. By differentiated instruction, open-ended questions and challenging activities, I believe that students’ learning of mathematics can be supported and gauged to a higher-level of conceptual understanding. I have implemented effective instruction while tutoring high school and college students. In addition, I use formative assessment as a way to plan my lessons according to students’ needs. Furthermore, I incorporate high level and meaningful activities that can foster students’ mathematics knowledge and lead to higher scores on standardized tests.
