Hi, my name is Shashi, and I have been teaching in many capacities since 1989. The most important thing to know about me is that I love teaching! I have taught high school math
in a New York City school in the South Bronx, and in a suburban school in central Massachusetts. I have been part of the original faculty for 3 start-up schools in New Hampshire and New York, where I wrote or co-wrote the mathematics
, physics, and SAT preparation
curricula. I have observed, instructed, and evaluated high school math and physics teachers in most of the Washington, DC, public high schools.
More recently, I have tutored high school students for 3 years in Westchester County, New York, with a special focus on SAT
preparation. I have personally done every question on every released SAT test
from the past 10 years. I have also tutored pre-med college students at Columbia University as they prepared for the MCAT
I believe that learning requires hard work, but can still be interesting and even fun. I also believe strongly that people assimilate information in very different ways. It is my responsibility as a teacher to get to know each student well enough so that I can adjust instruction to maximize their strengths and minimize their weaknesses. I have vast experience with accommodating students who have a variety of learning styles and needs.
My academic background is in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, so I enjoy demonstrating how theory and real world applications are connected. I have led high school student teams in the US FIRST Robotics competition and worked with another group to build a trebuchet (old French
siege engine) that fired a 16 pound bowling ball over 2 football
fields. I have led several student groups on week long Habitat for Humanity trips in storm damaged Charleston, SC, and New Orleans, LA.
Please contact me to see if we will be a good fit working together.
