First of all, I love students of all kinds, levels, and abilities. Before deciding to teach professionally, I volunteered extensively in student ministry in my church for the past 10 years. I continue to serve students of all ages as a youth mentor, Sunday school teacher, and children's Summer Vacation Bible school worker.
I graduated from Hofstra in 2008 with a BA in British and American Literature. After working in the insurance industry for a number of years, I decided to marry my passion for language and literature with my love of working with students and pursued a degree in English education. I returned to Hofstra University and earned a Masters of Science degree in English Education in 2013. I served as a full-time student teacher in Massapequa High School and Herricks High School, during which I taught the following courses: AP Literature & Composition, SAT Prep-Verbal Reasoning, 12th grade Mythology, 12th grade Responding to Literature, and 9th grade ELA. I am currently certified by the state of New York to teach English Language Arts for grades 7-12.
In addition to teaching professionally and mentoring, I want to tutor. I believe tutoring offers the unique opportunity to be able to work closely with one student over a period of time so that the student may come to realize their potential and achieve academic success. There is nothing in the world more satisfying than being a part of the learning process, and I want to involve myself in that as many ways as I possibly can.
