To Whom It May Concern,
I have nearly 20 years of teaching experience. I have spent most of my teaching years with students aged eleven to nineteen. I have had a focus on history, geography, and religious studies, all subjects which are part of the Social Studies curriculum.
I think my experience and dedication to teaching make me a strong candidate for to tutor your child. Being a teacher is something that I am very passionate about, and I always prepare lessons thoroughly so that all students have access to the learning experience. I consider myself to be a firm, but fair teacher, and have also been told this by both former students and colleagues.
I am also in the process of attaining my Advanced Certificate in Social Studies so that I can continue to improve my teaching skills, and obtain my New York State certification. By doing this I am now eligible for the New York State Teaching Internship Certificate for September, 2011. I shall then be following this with a unit on Special Needs within Social Studies to improve the skills that I already have with working with students with special educational needs.
I enjoy being able to create lessons that fit into the curriculum, while peaking students’ curiosity, encouraging them to take responsibility for their learning, and helping them to develop inquiring minds. I am a team player, and like to work with teachers to create the best learning experiences for students. This in turn helps them to succeed with the standardized testing required by New York.
I was asked to come into my last school in England to help pull it out of failing, and potentially closing, status. The government body known as OfSted was considering recommending closure for the school. My team not only managed to prevent closure but elevated it’s rating to "Good" in its last inspection. This is the second highest possible rating that can be achieved by a public school in England.
I relocated from England 3 years ago and cannot wait to get back to working with students.
In addition, I have a great deal of experience of working with at-risk students in the inner-city setting, and in rural settings too, and would appreciate the opportunity to contribute to any student’s continued success. I can promise that meeting with me will not be a waste of your time.
