History is NOT boring or difficult to remember, at least the way that I teach it. I have been tutoring for over 25 years and have successfully prepared every student for their Regents exams in Global and US History. My track record includes students that were C average students and have received Regents scores in the 90s, and failing students who have received passing grades and Regents credit.
My experience as a tutor for the past 18 years in the Greece School District has been broad. I have worked with K -12 students in Social Studies, English Language Arts, Health and Business courses. For the younger grades I will also tutor math and science, but I prefer to concentrate on my areas of expertise for grades 7 - 12. Both parents and school officials have told me that I work well with even the most difficult students. I consider myself firm but fair. In addition, I have tutored several students who were about to drop out of high school and went through with tutoring and graduated.
Many students struggle because they never learned the basics or just don't understand the cause/effect relationships. I encourage my students to be honest about their understanding of the subject and we work on gaining the best way for them to internalize the material.
As an educator, I know that every child learns differently. As a parent, I know that we want our children to excel in the best way possible. My goal is to help my students not only understand the material, but to also have a sense of accomplishment.

For more than eight years I was a marketing professional with a local health agency. I was in charge of a marketing staff and provided both training and supervision. The marketing that I did required promoting my agency and our events.

Organization is the key to success in every aspect of life. I help my students find what works best for them and how to effectively utilize their time. I find that color coding helps many students organize their notes. I also teach my students how to study for the test that they are taking by using what they already know. In addition, I teach them how to study effectively.
In addition to tutoring students for 20 years in Social Studies and ELA, I am also a freelance writer and I'm on staff at a local newspaper. Students often dread writing, but I have creative approaches to help them conquer their fear of writing. Many times students know what they want to say, but need help finding the best way to express themselves. When I was in high school, I hated writing, but now I love it!
