I am currently a college English Professor, with a Master's in Adult Education. My past experience, however, includes Director of Literacy Volunteers, where I worked with students combating various learning differences that presented obstacles to advancement in their literacy goals. In working with these students, I saw the majority of them glow as they began to see advancement with their literacy goals. My educational philosophy is that every day is a new day and a new opportunity to excel. Although students need to learn and build on past experiences, I believe that what has happened in the past stays in the past. Students need to build on what they currently know in order to achieve a brighter future. My work with college English students has been similar. Many of them have had learning concerns (slow reading, difficulty in comprehending textbooks, grammar deficiencies) that have held them back from succeeding in the past.

I prefer an interactive, student-involved teaching method, one that helps students develop techniques and skills to succeed in life and not just for the particular test or project they are currently working with. I believe firmly that students learn best by doing....not just by reading or listening. To that end, most of my lessons are very hands-on and concrete.

I am currently teaching English 100, which includes writing essays, using correct grammar, writing research papers, APA/MLA reference styles, and reading comprehension techniques.

SAT Reading

I am currently teaching English 101 (grammar, writing essays, writing research papers, APA/MLA styles) at Morrisville State College and GED classes at DCMO BOCES.

ESL/ESOL

As coordinator and Director of a county Literacy Volunteers program for 10 years, I have worked with a variety of ESOL students as well as helped teach ESOL to adults wishing to tutor ESL students.

Bible Studies

As a long-time sunday school teacher and Bible study teacher at my small but active church, I feel qualified to help anyone understand God's Word better. Again, as my teaching philosophy is the best learning is interactive and hands-on, my teaching in Bible Studies would be asking questions and providing techniques to better understand the Bible in the student's own way - not as a lecture but as a student-led procedure.

Public Speaking

I started public speaking with I was only 15 years old as a lay speaker in my church. As a Human Resources Rep and Trainer for 10 years in the corporate world and for 10 years as coordinator and director of Literacy Volunteers, I have had many experiences in public speaking, both as a trainer and a fundraiser.

Career Development

In 2001, through a NYS grant, I developed an interactive job skills program. Over the next 9 years, I expanded this program to include not only classroom training, but worksites to practice the skills as well as adding computer skills and job search skills.
