I hold a Doctorate (DMA) on the classical guitar and have many years of experience, including teaching guitar at Stony Brook University. I am well qualified to assist in tutoring at any level in the history or theory taught as high as the University level.

For learning the guitar, I find two things to be the most important:

1. Musicianship. This includes understanding the theoretical elements of music and also developing the ability to listen to music in a constructive way.

2. Technique. It is extremely important to be able to play any instrument in the most efficient a manner possible. A musician with good technique is someone who seems to an audience to have the ability to play effortlessly.

As an educator I try to work with all of my students on these two things, no matter what style they prefer to learn. I have experience teaching and performing in a variety of styles including rock, blues, folk, jazz, and classical. I teach any age group and can tailor to the needs of the student. I try to make the lessons fun, but always with the purpose of improving.
