My name is Allora and I'm an English tutor.
I'm a recent MA graduate from SUNY Brockport's Creative Writing Program, where I have also been employed as a graduate assistant and writing tutor for nearly two years. I worked with students (from freshmen to graduate students) on the writing process, revision methods, prewriting strategies, citation styles, analyzing literature, outlining, research, and grammar. But I've also had experience as a high school tutor assisting students with SAT Reading and Writing studies.
Additionally, I worked this past semester at Brockport's EOP as an instructor for underprivileged students in their first semester of college. While I've had an incredible experience working with students at the collegiate level, from freshmen to graduate level students, from all walks of life, tutoring has been an intrinsic part of my education for the majority of my academic career.
I'm the oldest of ten, all of whom are, or have been, homeschooled. I grew up in a home where, once you learned something yourself, it was expected and encouraged for you to pass that newfound skill or knowledge to others. I have tutored my siblings, and others in our homeschooling community, in Latin, Writing, History, Vocabulary, and Reading for the majority of my academic career. My parents value independent learning, a virtue they've cultivated within me. Their philosophy of being capable to learn anything, with a healthy sense of work ethic, is one I have adopted and put into practice. I skipped four grades before entering college at age 14, and graduated with my BA from SUNY Geneseo at age 19.
I hope I can be of assistance, and look forward to hearing from you.
