My students have been from all schools (on-line or live) and all degree programs. They have been doing all kinds of degrees; business, nursing, psychology or engineering. I have students who are working full time and need help with using MS Excel to do their work. Don't be afraid to look for help - it will be worth it in the short and the long run. There is never such a thing as a dumb question. Please reach out and see if I can help you meet your educational goals.

I have many years of extensive education and application in the business world. I would like to bring that help and insight to you and help you find out what you really need in the "real world." Book knowledge is great, but knowing how to apply it is the most important thing.

I love to have fun when I'm teaching or training. I currently train corporate employees in process improvement. My technical background as well as my MBA allows me to bring plenty of insight into how to get things done. Math (using Excel) and statistics (using Minitab or SPSS) are big part of doing this. I like to work with people who use SPSS, Minitab or JMP. I can help you with Excel as well. I look forward to hearing from you if you need help with your quantitative methods classes. I also help students who are studying biostatistics.

I have a Master's degree in Chemical Engineering from McGill University and an MBA from University of Edinburgh, Scotland.

When I'm not improving processes, I love to play and referee soccer. I also like reading and writing.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Biostatistics

I have an extensive background in statistical analysis due to my training as a Master's in Chemical Engineering. The application of statistics to living systems is a specific case with certain novel aspects. Because living systems are unique in almost each case, statistics take on a more important role than in the manufacturing industry, for example. The use of hypothesis testing and odds ratios in medicine is extremely important in research and drug development.

I have worked in the performance improvement and quality area known as Six Sigma for the past 8 years. In this field we apply statistics to demonstrate that we have made an improvement to an existing process that is statistically significant. In biostats we are also trying to make the same determinations from the data we collect about our patients. I am adept at helping the student understand concepts that are not commonly addressed in other subjects.

SPSS

I'm a certified Six Sigma Master Black Belt. In Six Sigma we use statistics to conduct all my data analysis. I have tutored many people in the use of SPSS. I am also proficient in Minitab.

Statistics

As an engineer, I have learned to use mathematics and statistics to develop solutions to problems. I worked in research for many years and now I work in process improvement. In each of these activities we use statistics to conduct data analysis. In process improvement, I am a Master Black Belt, the highest qualification for a Six Sigma practitioner. I have tutored many people in the use of statistical tools for analysis like SPSS.

Writing

I have spent most of my professional career presenting my work and ideas to customers, in writing and in presentations. I have learned to write papers on many different subjects with good grammar and well formed ideas. I can write papers in APA style and with correct citations. Let me know if I can help you.

If there was a WyzAnt calendar I would certainly use it to schedule my time with a student. It would allow WyzAnt to know when there was a lesson scheduled, if there was a cancellation dispute. The main thing I would need, however, would be a means to sync that calendar with my Blackberry and my Outlook calendars.

One of the issues that a tutor confronts is the posting from a potential student that says - "Need help with ????? asap. Can you meet this afternoon or tomorrow?". When I see postings like this I am more likely to move on to the next one, than respond. The reason is that there are very view times when we can have a successful tutoring session at the last minute. The additional stress... read more

One of the most difficult concepts to explain to a stats student is the idea behind hypothesis testing and the logic that goes with it. I have tried several different techniques, but one of the most useful is to compare it to a court of law in the US. In stats the sample data is innocent (of being different from the population) until proven guilty. When we reject the null hypothesis, we find... read more
