Dear Prospective Students;
I am an elementary teacher with a Master of Science degree in Childhood Education. I consider myself to be ambitious and student-focused. I am confident in my ability to help your child succeed. I believe meaningful learning occurs when students are allowed to confront real problems, make choices, and find solutions. I focus on providing students with the tools they will need to learn how to learn and applying it to everyday life, where applicable.
I am currently working as a fourth Grade Teacher. However, I have experience teaching first, second and third grades. I am an extremely passionate and down-to-earth teacher who loves igniting the spark for learning in each and every one of my students. I celebrate all of my students academic successes.
I love having fun with course material, and go out my way to make subject matter as engaging as possible. I have extremely high expectations of my students, and will actively push them to achieve their best results.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
I have four years of teaching experience. I am a NYS certified teacher (grs. 1-6), with a master's degree in Childhood Education. I taught first, second, and I am currently teaching third grade.
In order to ensure the success of all students, I closely monitor student’s progress, making adjustments when necessary through various interventions. Through structured teacher planning time, using standards and formative benchmark assessments, helps me to target students with academic skills deficiencies and provide interventions.
I always engage in continued reflection on my teaching effectiveness, in order to enhance the success and the level of student achievement. As a teacher, I have high expectations for every student. I have the responsibility of molding young minds and creating a positive effect. I am flexible in my teaching methods, always keeping in mind that the objective is to get the students to respond and participate.
I firmly believe teachers, students, and parents can learn best when actively engaged in the learning process. To accommodate the different learning styles I incorporate multiple teaching methods for the students. I aim to provide a stimulating learning environment which encourages students to trust their own opinions while fostering confidence in a positive and caring classroom environment in order for the students to realize their full potentials.
I have worked for two years teaching first grade and one year teaching first grade. I taught English Language Learners as well as struggling readers. I focused on phonics, which helps students with the decoding of the words. I first start the year off with distiguishing between the short & long vowel sounds. I use the example of a hamburger to differentiate the sound between the short and long vowels. Phonics is not only taught in the written form but orally as well. I utilize a few excercises, where the students listen and in order to differenetiate which sounds is in the beginning, middle and end. As the students advance, I will play games such as; word hunts, word sorts, creating words using letter cards and determinig what is the secret word using all the letter cards, just to name a few. Phonics involves all the senses, without the basic foundation, reading will be difficult for years to come.
One of the perks of being a teacher is teaching your students how to proofread their work. In the first grade it is very difficult, because the students will say "Iam finished" and I will turn around and say now proofread what you just wrote, and all I will hear is moaning and groaning. If you think you spelt a word wrong, circle it and look in your dictionary to see if you can find the correct spelling - remember to sound out the first two letters. Then, make sure you placed your period in the right place, and at the beginning of your sentence you have Capital letters.
As a teacher in the Clark County School District, We test our students from grades k-12 at the end of each trimester. Part of the preparation, is teaching study skills. They are different techniques to study. However, it is not how much time you've spent studying, but the quality. I hear students tell me I studied 3 hours for the spelling test, however, they have no clue as to what they studied. Then I have a student say well, I studied for 20 minutes and get 100%.
