My name is Neha. I will graduate with a B.S in Biology from Stony Brook University in December, 2014. I currently have a 3.57 g.p.a and am part of many honor societies. I have also been a Teacher's Assistant (TA) for college level general chemistry and a Research Assistant in a lab that tests curcumin as a potential treatment against cancer for 1 year. I am currently a Research Assistant in a lab that is researching Aquaporin 0. In my free time, I tutor at a test prep center. I hope to get my masters in education soon. Standardized testing comes naturally to me and I enjoy passing this skill on to others. I use visual aids in my teaching, and firmly believe that the student comes first. I tailor each lesson to the students needs. I am passionate about teaching, have an easy-going personality, and strive to make learning as enjoyable and stress-free as possible.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Genetics

I have taken a college level genetics course at Stony Brook University during the summer session of 2014. I also have experience with fruit fly genetics because I did an internship at Mount Sinai School of Medicine where I crossed fruit flies to generate a F2 generation. I used punnet squares to figure out the genotype of the mutated parent generation using the phenotypes of the F2 and F1 generations. I feel confident in teaching everything genetics consists of, from Mendelian genetics with the laws of dominance, segregation, and independent assortment to its exceptions and using punnet squares and dihybrid crosses. I also feel confident in teaching the more classical genetics topics, such as mitosis, meiosis, DNA replication, transcription, translation, and viral/bacterial genetics.

Hindi

I believe I have the necessary skills to tutor Hindi because my childhood was spent in India, where Hindi is the national language. Hindi was my first language; English came second. Even now, I continuously use Hindi to communicate with my grandmother, who was born and brought up in India and cannot speak English fluently. I have some experience in tutoring as I have tutored before for Arista, the national honor society in my high school, and also served as a Teacher's Assistant (TA) in my college, Stony Brook University, for 1 year.
