All of Yang’s current tutoring subjects are listed at the left. You can read more about Yang’s qualifications in specific subjects below.

Accounting

I received a BS in Economics with a concentration in Finance from Wharton. I have spent six years in the finance industry and have worked in asset management and investment banking. I am also a CFA charterholder, and passing the three exams necessary to become a charterholder involves a deep understanding of corporate finance, accounting, portfolio construction, and economics.

Business

I received a BS in Economics with a concentration in Finance from Wharton. I have spent six years in the finance industry, including one year at BlackRock, three years at boutique investment bank Gleacher & Company, and two years at CIFC Asset Management. At my jobs I learned to value fixed income and equity securities, build three-statement models, and be able to make a case for investments to senior management. I am also a CFA charterholder, and passing the three exams necessary to become a charterholder involves a deep understanding of corporate finance, accounting, portfolio construction, and economics.

Chinese

I was born in China and grew up speaking Mandarin. Even after my family moved to New York, I still had to speak Chinese at home and never lost my Beijing Chinese accent. A friend picked me to officiate her wedding because of my fluency in both Mandarin and English.

Economics

I received a BS in Economics with a concentration in Finance from Wharton. During my time at Penn, I took classes in fixed income security valuation, foreign exchange, and both financial and corporate accounting. I have spent six years in the finance industry and have worked in asset management. At my current job I constantly evaluate the impact of macroeconomic data and developments on individual company performance. I am also a CFA charterholder, and passing the three exams necessary to become a charterholder involves a deep understanding of corporate finance, accounting, portfolio construction, and economics.

English

While I learned English after I learned Chinese, I consider it my first language. I have always loved to read and write and would love to pass that passion on. In terms of qualifications, I have scored 800 on the SAT Verbal, and the SAT II exams in Literature and Writing. I also scored a 5 on the AP English Literature exam. My high school was very rigorous on essay construction and developing a point clearly and persuasively through writing, which prepared well for college and beyond, and I would be happy to teach those same methods and tips to others.

Finance

I received a BS in Economics with a concentration in Finance from Wharton. I have spent six years in the finance industry and have worked in asset management and investment banking. At my current day job I routinely analyze financial statements and sometimes build my own financial models to predict future performance, particularly as it relates to cash flow, a crucial metric for both fixed income and equity investors. I also have extensive experience using Capital IQ to pull financials into Excel and identify competitors for a given company. I am also a CFA charterholder, and passing the three exams necessary to become a charterholder involves a deep understanding of corporate finance, accounting, portfolio construction, and economics.

French

I received a BA in French Studies from the University of Pennsylvania. I also spent an entire year at Sciences Po, one of the Grandes Ecoles, in Paris during my entire junior year. There I took classes in French with French students.

Grammar

My high school is a very traditional grammar school in many ways and really drilled the rules of grammar into me. Grammatical errors can create a hard-to-reverse first impression -- recruiters will even stop reading resumes and toss them upon finding grammatical errors. I am more than happy to help instill a sense of what is grammatically correct and a habit of writing correctly and concisely. I also took Latin for a number of years, which helped me think even more about phrasing and word choice in English. In terms of qualifications, I have scored 800 on the SAT Verbal, and the SAT II exams in Literature and Writing. I also scored a 5 on the AP English Literature exam.

Literature

Simply put, I love to read, and I believe that a lifelong desire to read and write is good not just for SAT verbal sections. Developing and honing reading and writing habits will also help advance your career, and will increase the respect others have for you. In terms of qualifications, I have scored 800 on the SAT Verbal, and the SAT II exams in Literature and Writing. I also scored a 5 on the AP English Literature exam. I still love to read and go through dozens of news articles a day, and occasionally reread a classic or two. I especially like to reread older English literature, so if you are stuck on a passage in Shakespeare, Wuthering Heights, Pride and Prejudice, or Frankenstein, or anything else, I would be more than happy to walk through key quotations and characters.

Microsoft Excel

I have spent six years and counting in the finance industry and have worked on more spreadsheets than you can shake a stick at. I am able to build live three-statement models and also teach good Excel etiquette and rules such as formula and reference construction, and organization of inputs and outputs to make your spreadsheets accessible to others.

Microsoft Outlook

I have been using Outlook in the workplace for six years. During this time, I've picked up skills such as keyboard shortcuts, ways to quickly set up contacts and appointments, and good habits such as a vast array of rules to help me organize the hundreds of emails that I receive every day.

Public Speaking

I recently officiated a wedding for a close friend in both English and Chinese for close to a hundred guests. At my current job, I frequently submit and defend investment ideas to a committee of senior research analysts and portfolio managers.

Reading

Developing and honing reading and writing habits will also help advance your career, and will increase the respect others have for you. SAT Reading

In terms of qualifications, I have scored 800 on the SAT Verbal, and the SAT II exams in Literature and Writing. I also scored a 5 on the AP English Literature exam. I still remember most if not all of the words I had to learn for the Verbal section. I have also been taking tests all my life (SAT, college exams, CFA exams) and would also be happy to share tips about test-taking, since these tests are not just about knowing the topics, but also about using the time given to get the maximum number of points.

SAT Writing

In terms of qualifications, I have scored 800 on the SAT Verbal, and the SAT II exams in Literature and Writing. I also scored a 5 on the AP English Literature exam. I still love to read and go through dozens of news articles a day, and occasionally reread a classic or two. I've also sat through many essay exams and would be more than happy to share tips about how to understand an essay prompt, formulate a thesis, and write in a clear, organized way under time pressure.

Vocabulary

I have always loved to read and write, and actually still remember most if not all of the words I learned for the SAT verbal. I go through dozens of news articles a day, and occasionally reread a classic or two to help build and maintain my vocabulary. I am happy to pass on tips about how to remember large quantity of words and also how to eliminate incorrect choices on a test even if you are not sure of what the right answer could be. In terms of qualifications, I have scored 800 on the SAT Verbal, and the SAT II exams in Literature and Writing. I also scored a 5 on the AP English Literature exam.
