I enrolled my daughter in a prep class for SSAT. Her scores did not improve over time. Only until we hired Jed during crunch time did we see results. Wonderful tutor!
My son has been Jed's student for two years. Jed is an exceptional tutor, caring, responsible, highly professional. Tutoring with Jed works very well for high achievers, not just kids who need help with the school program itself. Jed tutors according to what the child needs and expands that specific child's horizons. Whether you need help or would like to push the envelope of school's program, Jed is the right person to engage to help you help your child!
Thank you, Natalie. It's been a pleasure to work with a student as bright and creative as your son.
Jed is not only a high skilled tutor. When we met Jed, it was only 6 weeks before the regents exam. His response was very quickly and we got a first session on the next day. Jed accepted our last minutes situation and he conducted very aggressively.
Jed picked up on my son's outline learning style very quickly. By the 3rd session, Jed had already figured out most of my son's issues and how to approach them. Halfway through the six years they spent working together, my son had been changed of his motivation to study.
Jed identified my son's foggy areas and addressed them one by one. This approach gave my son self-confidence and a lot of curiosity. In the final two weeks, Jed gradually raised his morale and help my son face his test anxiety. I discovered teaching and or tutoring is a gift from one human being to another. We appreciate his energy to my son. His help was invaluable. Thanks, Jed, your comprehension of teaching is terrific! Our son passed his test!!!
My son was happy with the lesson. He said Jed was patient with him and did not get upset when my son did not know the answer.
Yesterday, my son had a great math session with Jed. 7th grade prealgebra has been challenging for my son, however, Jed was thorough with each math question and was able to grasp how much he already knows and what he needs to work on. My son left the session confident and already knows what other areas in math he'd like Jed to work with him on for his next session.
My son immediately felt comfortable and is looking forward to upcoming sessions, as am I. I can see my son will gain confidence in working independently.
I am very lucky to have found Jed as a tutor for my daughter. Jed has a gift for teaching, he is patient, makes the lesson fun for the student. My daughter needed help with Math as she was retaking the SSAT exam, we were very lucky to find Jed. Within a short period of time her Math confidence and knowledge has increased. If you are looking for a experienced, knowledge, patient, caring, individual, Jed L. is the right tutor for you. I plan to continue working with Jed in the future.
Jed is a great listener and very easy going. He explains everything very thoroughly and won't stop until you're completely comfortable with the material. I would recommend Jed to anyone who is looking for a tutor that they can learn from while having some fun.
I am a very busy person, my schedule changes constantly due to the nature of my business/kids. Jed is very accommodating, he has made this a very pleasurable experience for me.
Today was a very good first lesson for my son. Jed L. is very professional and very patient, we are up to a good start.
Jed behaves very professionally, and his teaching methods are easy to follow. My daughter said, that he helped her a lot after the first session. I am looking forward to a pleasant and productive tutoring experience.
I hired Jed L. to help my son in preparation for the TACHS exam. It was a wonderful experience for my son; he was looking forward to his tutoring sessions and his progress was noticeable. My son successfully passed the exam and was admitted to the high school of his choice. Thank You so much for your commitment in helping my son to become a better student!
Jed has a special talent for teaching. He is patient, motivated and easy to talk to. He communicates well with us parents. Our son was easily distracted and difficult to concentrate. When Jed came, he asked our son what he wanted to achieve and how his tutor could help him. Instead of the tutor setting agenda, Jed wants our son to take an ownership. This worked. We have just received an interim report card, and our son improved his grade for English, Humanities and Math! Thank you Jed.
Jed is helping my son with college Physics. We found him knowledgeable and very professional. He review all of my son's school materials and developed a plan to help him achieve his goal. We are both very satisfied and highly recommend him.
Jed has been working with my 10 year old daughter with 5th grade math and I'm definitely seeing improvements in a short time, such as more clarity and understanding of the material. He is able to easily identify her short-comings and zeroes in on exactly what she needs to work on. She works very well with his patient, calm, and friendly personality. I'm very happy and look forward to great grades throughout the school year. Thanks Jed!
Jed is very kind and helpful, he gives 100% in teaching, my son absolutely loves learning from him. I know I made the best choice when I chose this tutor, his techniques in teaching WORK! He knows many subjects and goes beyond teaching, he helps my son with his home work and more, you can tell he wants his students to become something, his efforts are seen, he has a sense of humor that attracts children instead of scaring them. I would trust my son with him any day, he gives my child home work, he is easily reached, he always is in contact , he is one of those tutors one would remember for life. Thank you Jed!
Jed is great tutor and is committed to his work and student, especially when his student is eager to learn! I find him to be patient and explain each step to complete a problem thoroughly. Just a few weeks into tutoring sessions with him and I could not be more satisfied.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am qualified to tutor in college counseling because I have significant experience in this area. As a Case Manager for the Hetrick-Martin Institute, I met with adolescents both individually and in a group setting to help them devise an educational/vocational plan. This included researching various careers, aptitude testing, creating a strong personal essay, and teaching them how to effectively research various colleges to suit their needs.
I am extremely familiar and experienced with tutoring the common core curricula in both ELA and math to elementary school and middle school students. Since September 2010 (for over 4 years now), I have been a WyzAnt tutor with consistently exceptional ratings and reviews. As soon as the common core curricula was fully implemented in the NYC school system in 2011, I familiarized myself with both the math and ELA topics and lessons. Every elementary school student I have tutored since 2011 in ELA and math was common core material, since common core has been required throughout the state. I have used a variety of books and materials for common core practice, including and especially the "Ready New York" series and the Engage NY Common Core website.
For four years, I have been employed as a elementary education substitute teacher for the New York City Department of Education. I have taught Math, ELA, Science, Social Studies, and Music for every grade from K through 5th. Additionally, three of my current Wyzant Students and two of my private students are in elementary school.
I have been tutoring students for Regents exams for several years now. The student I am currently tutoring for English Regents is very happy with her son's progress, and even said that this is the first time he seems to be enjoying studying. I am also quite familiar with the new "Common Core" curriculum for Regents exams. As for materials, I use a combination of the Barron's Regents book and on-line resources, and I give simulated exams 1 - 2 weeks before the actual test and grade them to ensure that my students perform well.
For a year, I was a substitute para-professional with the NYC Dept. of Education, District 75, working with children on the severe end of the autistic spectrum.
For 7 years, I worked as a case manager, outreach worker, and supervisor at the Hetrick-Martin Institute, providing services to runaway, homeless, and at-risk youth
Currently, I am privately tutoring a special needs child in piano.
I am extremely patient and empathetic, and get along great with all kids, especially it seems, those with special needs.
I am glad to provide more detailed information and/or documentation if required. Thank you.
I have been a very active tutor in excellent standing with WyzAnt (see my ratings and reviews) and I always include study skills as part of my tutoring, regardless of subject; skills such as how to focus, time management, recitation, using index cards, using the internet, as well as planning and organization. I not only teach these skills as part of my "subject" tutoring, but in my work with students preparing for exams, such as the SHSAT or ASVAB, I emphasize study skills even more, since usually the amount of study time before the exam is limited.
