I enjoy teaching and I am a NYS certified elementary teacher and bilingual teacher. My teaching career was launched in 2007 as an after school Chinese teacher and I have been teaching/ substitute teaching across New York City public schools ever since. Throughout this time, I also keep a part time job tutoring children as well as adults to their needs.
Chinese is my specialty as I was born and raised in China until I finished high school. I studied Elementary Education and Chinese literature as an undergraduate. Being an immigrant in the United States has put me in the shoes of second language learners. I have been through rough times when I was not able to speak for myself because of language barrier. Therefore, I chose bilingual education at Teachers College, Columbia University for my Masters Degree to study the methodology of teaching in both English and in Chinese to better serve people who desire to acquire a second language.
If you are not zealous about language learning, think about the practical use as a second language speaker in a metropolitan city in today's society. That's right, I believe the best way to assess a language learner is through observing how they use the language. And I think the best part about second language acquisition is that there so many other aspect attached to it such as culture, social interaction, value system etc. Enough said, step up to a new language adventure!
