ADD/ADHD

I have experience working as a paraprofessional for the Board of Education in special education, where some of my most rewarding experiences occurred. Assisting in the classroom motivated to study education.

After graduating with a Masters in Special education, I went on to teach students with specific learning disabilities including Spectrum Disorder, ADD, ADHD and Dyslexia.

Currently, I help children and some adults with behavioral issues that may interfere with learning which includes poor study habits and attention skills.

Art Theory

I have an Associates degree in Fine Arts with a concentration in Photography and a Masters in Education with a minor in Graphic Design.

Art is my passion and it has given me a great deal of happiness to learn and teach in this area. A compilation of my work was displayed (Art/photo) show in an art Gallery in NY part of CCNY. I worked for an ad agency in the art department as Production Coordinator specializing in Layout and Photoshop and have tutored Photography/Photoshop privately for the last 5 years.

Aspergers

After graduating with a Masters Degree in Special Education, I worked for several agencies providing ABA therapy for children with Spectrum Disorder (Autism, PDD-NOS, and Aspergers) since 2006.

In this setting, I often work one to one with each child and in groups of 6 students. I help to develop programs that will enhance learning by breaking down skills into small steps and addressing various behaviors that may prevent optimum learning.

I have over 10 years of experience teaching students with specific learning disabilities including ADD, ADHD and dyslexia.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have attained a great deal of experience as a Special Education teacher/ABA Therapist, and as a classroom teacher at the Crayon Box Preschool. In addition, I worked for nine years as a Para-Professional in Queens for the New York City Department of Education. These positions have provided me with extensive experience in teaching one-to-one, small group, and in the classroom setting . Most of my experience has been with pre-school age through grade 6. My NYS certifications are birth-grade 2 and grades 1-6.

English

I have experience helping children in English with book reports and term papers. I have extensive experience helping children and adults with Reading and English.

Phonics

I worked as a paraprofessional for the Board of Education with specific learning disabilities. I have also taught students with specific learning disabilities including ADD, ADHD and Dyslexia.
Using various programs to focus in on letter order, word analysis, and teaching phonemic awareness including fundamental letter sounds... reading would be more enjoyable and effective.

Reading

I have ten years of tutoring and teaching experience working with children in the subject of reading.

I have worked with children in special education and mainstream classes. I can work in the areas of creative writing, reading comprehension, phonetic awareness, spelling, English grammar/usage and building vocabulary, organization, and study skills.

Special Needs

I am a Certified Special Educator.
My Master's degree and certifications are in Special Education; B-2nd grade and grades 1-6.
I have worked in preschools, private agencies as a teacher in special education (ADHD, ADD and spectrum disorder). As a paraprofessional for the Board of Education in NYC, I worked with children in special education.

Study Skills

I have worked with children in special needs and in mainstream education. I have come across many students who didn't know how to study or were very disorganized with their work. As I have become more experienced working with various behavioral issues, I have also helped students correct poor study habits. I did this primarily building organization skills; making specific plans, adding more structure, visual aids, auditory aids, and providing schedules for the students.
Sometimes I had to extend this to the home either having meetings with parents occasionally, or if I was providing home therapy, often study skills could be improved by working with the family addressing structural needs for their child while they study and/or complete homework assignments.

Vocabulary

Tutoring students for over 10 years in the subject of reading. I have helped students improve: spelling, grammar, comprehension, and vocabulary. Within the subject of reading, my favorite subtopics are phonics and vocabulary.
