Hi, my name is Jackie. I am a full time physician assistant at New York Presbyterian/Columbia but have always had a passion for math and science. I would love to provide your child extra help with their homework or studying for exams. I went to Undergrad at the University of New Hampshire where I received my B.S. in medical laboratory science in 2010. I worked clinically in a hospital hematology laboratory for a year, and then went on to graduate school at Stony Brook University. I received my master's degree in 2013 as a physician assistant and have since been working at New York Presbyterian. Having been in the science/medical fields I use math often. I currently work 12 hour shifts (3 days per week) at my full time job, so I have up to four days per week available for tutoring.
I personally think math is fun, but understand many people see it in various ways and it can be challenging. The methods by which students are taught in school may not be the way that works for the individual student. I am wiling to try to help them see math problems in different ways, until we find a method that is right for them. Like many areas of life, practice makes perfect. I am a very patient person with a positive attitude. I want to not only help students on their current math challenges but inspire them for the future.
I want this to be a low-stress environment, but a successful one. I will ask for frequent feedback so I can best meet your child's needs. I will expect that they keep up with their assigned school homework in the subject and make their best attempt at it. If possible, I would like the weekly homework assignment or course syllabus in advance via email so i can be best prepared for our session. Please let me know if you have any further questions about me or my experience!
Graduate level anatomy and physiology was taken during my physician assistant education at Stony Brook University, Stony Brook NY. I took this course somewhat recently, 2011. I also use anatomy on a daily basis at my job as a physician assistant.
I participated in 19 years of dance at Rosita Lee Dance Center in Hudson, NH. I taught ballet, tap, jazz, and lyrical for a few years in high school. I took a ballet class at the University of New Hampshire as well. I have won gold/high gold in many local and national dance competitions.
