I am a native Chinese speaker. I know Chinese culture from the inside, having lived, learned, and worked there from birth through age 24. Growing up in China with the daily influence of my father, a university professor of Chinese language and literature, I developed an ever-increasing interest in Chinese reading, writing, and public speaking.
During my school years, Chinese was always my strongest subject. I was selected to participate at different levels of composition and public speech competition, and won awards on behalf of my school as well as for individual merit. I was the senior editor of the campus magazine and newspaper in middle and high school in China. My interest and strong background extended into my college years in Beijing. I not only continued editing work for the college campus magazine, I also started teaching and tutoring Chinese to students coming from different parts of world. Their native languages included Arabic, Korean, Japanese, and English. Meanwhile, I learned from my students about their countries, their culture, and themselves.
With a major in English language and literature as Bachelor degree, my knowledge and skill of manipulating different languages were greatly expanded and improved. After graduated from Beijing Language and Culture University, I taught English to Chinese students seeking associate degrees at a local university of my hometown. While I was having fun teaching, I also worked as translator and representative for the Dutch partner in a joint venture bauxite mining business located in China.
When I moved to the USA, I decided to get a degree in Information Technology at RIT as a “practical” major that would provide work opportunities. That degree has provided work opportunities and also opened the door for me to use my Information Technology knowledge and skills to enhance teaching and communicating through modern technologies (multi-media, language software, etc).
With a work background (teaching/business/technology) and living experience both in China and the US, I have been able to apply and sharpen the skills learned from colleges and real life.
It is my sincere hope that you will agree that I am the best tutor for your needs.
