Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have worked as a substitute teacher in an elementary/middle school, where I had to lead lessons in different elementary subjects. I have done one-on-one work in school and privately as a tutor with younger students, and I think my background in English, science, history and my abilities in upper level math contribute to my potential to work with younger students and help them grasp the basic skills and the fundamental principles that they learn during these critical years. I enjoy working with younger students and helping them learn different methods to understand the work, and to think on their own.

ESL/ESOL

I am an English major and I have worked with a variety of students of varying abilities. I have taken different languages before, and I understand the difficulties one might face in experiencing a new language. I can help them to understand the way English works in a colloquial and formal sense, in a one-on-one setting.

Study Skills

I have extensive experience with different methods of studying and organization. I know that preparing for exams is not a standard equation that everyone uses: different individuals need different approaches. I help students understand where and why their problems exist, and then I work with them to address these issues. In working on the problems, I also help them with organizational skills, and this contributes to the test prep process.
