To pursue the dream of bringing Chinese
to the world, I came to New York University to further my study. I have student teaching experience not only in the dual-language
program kindergarten ESL
classroom, but also in the Chinese class from the 6th grade
to 10th grade.
I have been interested in teaching for a long time. I majored in teaching Chinese as a foreign language
and minored in applied psychology
in college. During my first three years in college, I taught English
to students from first grade
to third grade
in a public school in Shanghai. Thanks to this experience, I did research on my students and the research was published in two books, which aim to help teachers design efficient classroom activities (put spirit into your class) and help parents study English with their kids at home (happy family, happy English). In my senior year at college, a passion for Chinese characters led me to form a group and began to design a series of practical methods to help Chinese learners understand and memorize Chinese characters. The research result would be published in 2013. I also have some teaching experience in subjects other than Chinese or ESL, for two summer holidays. I volunteered to teach Art
in the remote area in Anhui province, China and Chinese and Social Studies
in the remote area in Shanxi province. Besides that, I also mentored students to be energy-savers for three years in the NGO “Roots & Shoots” program.
Learning is interesting and meaningful. I want to teach my students effectively in an entertainment way. I enjoy being creative and am passionate about helping students to understand and live up to their full potential. I want to achieve three goals in Chinese teaching: 1) to guide my students to reach a high proficiency level in Chinese language; 2) to help students learn Chinese under real-life setting or context; 3) to assist Chinese facilitate their development of critical thinking and progress in other content area.
