I love working with kids and adults alike. Since it is so important to learn English
to live and function well in the US, I would enjoy helping anyone with learning English - speaking, reading
. I love languages. Besides being a native English speaker, I have studied French
, Bengali, Russian
, Mandarin Chinese
, and can read and write musical notation (as well as a bunch of computer
languages :-) )
Since I have spent over 25 years in the computer field, I can also help people learn about computers, install/remove applications or learn certain computer languages or operating systems (how to get around on the computer).
My BA was in Music
from Indiana University, Bloomington, IN. I play and love piano
music, but also love classical music (I listen to/attend a lot of opera now) and ethnic music (other countries). I originally started my career teaching piano to young children and adults. I really loved that profession. But because it was difficult to financially support myself as a music teacher, I went back to the university (Monmouth University, W. Long Branch, NJ) to obtain my MS in Computer Science
. That was tough, but I made it through. Then I worked for various military contractors and telecommunications companies deploying and fixing communication networks (NJ, DC, VA).
I relocated to East Hampton, NY, after living in NJ for 27 years. I have gone back to tutoring as it is a profession I thoroughly enjoy.
Learning keeps us young. Teaching and imparting new ideas, and helping students of all ages successfully grasp these new concepts, is a wonderful gift to give. In the giving, I also receive. I learn from students and children perpetually. The learning goes both ways.
I have also traveled extensively in the US, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Thailand, Fiji, Tahiti, Australia, New Zealand, and Beijing, China. I have lived abroad for a year in India and Bangladesh.
