I love working with kids and adults alike. Since it is so important to learn English to live and function well in the US, I would enjoy helping anyone with learning English - speaking, reading, writing. I love languages. Besides being a native English speaker, I have studied French, German, Italian, Japanese, Bengali, Russian, Mandarin Chinese, and can read and write musical notation (as well as a bunch of computer languages :-) )

Since I have spent over 25 years in the computer field, I can also help people learn about computers, install/remove applications or learn certain computer languages or operating systems (how to get around on the computer).

My BA was in Music from Indiana University, Bloomington, IN. I play and love piano music, but also love classical music (I listen to/attend a lot of opera now) and ethnic music (other countries). I originally started my career teaching piano to young children and adults. I really loved that profession. But because it was difficult to financially support myself as a music teacher, I went back to the university (Monmouth University, W. Long Branch, NJ) to obtain my MS in Computer Science. That was tough, but I made it through. Then I worked for various military contractors and telecommunications companies deploying and fixing communication networks (NJ, DC, VA).

I relocated to East Hampton, NY, after living in NJ for 27 years. I have gone back to tutoring as it is a profession I thoroughly enjoy.

Learning keeps us young. Teaching and imparting new ideas, and helping students of all ages successfully grasp these new concepts, is a wonderful gift to give. In the giving, I also receive. I learn from students and children perpetually. The learning goes both ways.

I have also traveled extensively in the US, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Thailand, Fiji, Tahiti, Australia, New Zealand, and Beijing, China. I have lived abroad for a year in India and Bangladesh.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

C

I wrote over 100,000 lines of code for my MS thesis in computer science. It was entitle C-code implementation of Mobile Tactical Battle Systems. I wrote it as an intern while I worked at Ft. Monmouth, NJ over a 2 year period. It was tested and worked in mobile units (tanks).

English

Teaching English to all people.

Logic

I have been a computer programmer and programmed in over 20 languages. I have also had to take advanced math (after Calculus, including but not limited to Linear Algebra) which requires logic type thinking. Programming definitely requires logical thinking and writing of code. Even if a semicolon or dot is missing or out of place, the code will not run.

Microsoft Outlook

I can teach Microsoft Outlook since I have used it for over 10 years.

Microsoft Windows

I am certified to teach Microsoft Windows since I have been actively using it for the past 20+ years.

Music History

I am certified to teach Music History since I have a B.A. in Music.
