I am a passionate and enthusiastic English Language Arts teacher who constantly seeks to make learning meaningful, relevant, and fun! When teaching, I like to use discovery and project based learning because I believe when students are able to co-construct their own learning experiences, learning will be more meaningful and retention will be greater. I have a great deal of experience using varied literacy strategies, and I will work tirelessly to find the ones that work for your child!
I obtained my B.A. from SUNY Cortland with a major in English and a minor in Secondary Education in 2003. In 2009, I earned my M.S.Ed in Secondary English Education from the University of Bridgeport, and in 2008, I attended the College Board's 30 Hour Institute which resulted in a College Board Certification in A.P. Literature and Composition. I am NYS certified to teach English Language Arts grades 7-12, and I am currently working on my 5-6 extension. I am additionally certified in English Language Arts 6-12 in Connecticut.
I have nine years of classroom experience, and I have taught ELA to students in grades 7-12, including A.P. Literature and Composition. I also have three years of one-on-one literacy tutoring experience with struggling readers and writers in grades 3-6.
I am eager to work with your family to hone reading and writing skills, increase SAT scores, conquer the English Regents, or obtain success on the A.P. Literature and Composition exam. I look forward to hearing from you!
