My name is Barb and I'd love to help you master (and maybe even like!) Math.
I graduated cum laude from the College of Mt. St. Vincent and I got my MBA in Info Systems from Iona College's Hagan School of Business. I was a Math major in college, with a minor in Secondary Education.
I just wrapped up a career in Info Technology and I'm looking to use my knowledge and experience to help others who might be struggling with computing or with my favorite subject: Math! I have student teaching experience and I'm happy to help you with pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, general Math, computing or the MS-Office suite. My most current experience is helping my own kids: my son with Geometry, my daughter with advanced Algebra, Trig and SAT prep, and both of them with MS-Office.
I am patient and low-key and I always try to correlate topics to their real-life applications. I look forward to meeting you and helping you through whatever math challenges you're facing.
Gain proficiency in the study of linear and quadratic functions and graphing on the xy-coordinate system. With tutoring in Algebra 1, students will have all the knowledge necessary to solve and graph equations and inequalities. They will also be able to apply this knowledge to other areas of math, such as word problems, ratios and proportions.
Gain proficiency in Algebra 2 to build on basic algebraic and geometric concepts. Develop advanced skills such as systems of equations, advanced polynomials, imaginery and complex numbers, quadratics, and concepts for the study of trigonometric functions. Algebra 2 is important for students’ success on college mathematics entrance exams.
Let me help you do your best so that you will be eligible for the military specialty that matches your ability and interests. My educational background and experience in Math tutoring can help you excel on those areas of the test.
I graduated cum laude from the College of Mt. St. Vincent and I got my MBA in Info Systems from Iona College's Hagan School of Business. I have 30+ years experience in the Information Technology / Computer Programming field. I can assist you with general design of both generic and customized programs as well as specifics related to the Windows operating system, hardware installation and configuration (e.g., printers), software installation and configuration (e.g., applic pkgs like Turbo-Tax) and the use of MS-Office applications (WORD, Excel and Powerpoint). I can also provide assistance with general troubleshooting.
Gain proficiency in Elementary Math in order to master the study of whole numbers and relations between them. This includes in-depth instruction on factors, multiples, primes, composites, divisibility tests and exponents, among others.
General computer skills will enable you to understand your hardware and software, log on and open applications, use a mouse, configure monitor settings, perform simple file maintenance, use a printer and use a modem. You can also learn about accessing the internet and the capabilities of productivity tools like word processors and spreadsheet applications.
I have been actively reading and playing music for over 40 years. I was trained in piano, accordion and trumpet. I played trumpet for 4 years in a school band. I am also self-taught on the 6-string guitar.
Geometry introduces the study of points, segments, triangles, polygons, circles, solid figures, and their associated relationships. Powers of abstract reasoning, spatial visualization and logical reasoning patterns are improved through Geometry. The focus is on comparisons between various figures concerning surface areas, volumes, congruency, similarity, transformations and coordinate Geometry.
Use Microsoft Excel to create spreadsheets that can help you keep track of bills, household expenses, tax return details, and myriad other items. Learn to create and modify worksheets, enter formulas, format the dataa, create Pivot tables and populate Charts.
You can use Microsoft Powerpoint to create professional looking presentations that enhance the basic info by adding graphical objects, color themes, charts, pictures, customized text, and effects.
Microsoft Word, a word processing application, can be used to create any number of document types --- letters, reports, outlines, etc. WORD enables you to format the text (font, color, bolding, italics, underlining, spacing, etc), add pictures, embed spreadsheets and charts, automate spellchecking, search for strings, and password-protect documents.
Prealgebra reinforces the mathematical skills taught in the lower elementary grades and adds advanced computation and beginning algebraic concepts. Topics include fractions, decimals, percents, positive and negative integers, rational numbers, ratios, proportions and solving basic algebraic equations. Students will develop and expand problem solving skills in order to interpret and solve word problems. Successful completion of prealgebra prepares students for success in Algebra 1.
Let me help you prepare for the PSAT. The Math section of the PSAT/NMSQT requires a basic knowledge of numbers and operations; algebra and functions; geometry and measurement; and data analysis, statistics, and probability. My educational background and Math tutoring experience can help you excel on this section of the test.
Let me help you prepare for the SAT. The SAT is a globally recognized college admission test that lets you show colleges what you know and how well you can apply that knowledge. It tests your knowledge of reading, writing and Math. The Math section requires a basic knowledge of numbers and operations; algebra and functions; geometry and measurement; and some data analysis, statistics, and probability. My educational background and Math tutoring experience can help you excel on this section of the test.
Trigonometry is the branch of mathematics that deals with relationships between the sides and the angles of triangles and the calculations based on them. Real-world problems involving trig are common in engineering, physics, construction and design. Topics include right-triangle relationships, the unit circle, sine, cosine, and tangent functions and their applications, inverse trig functions, identities, and the trigonometric form of complex numbers.
Barbara is a great tutor — Our student is moving forward with her math lessons with Barbara. She is showing much improvement since she began studying with Barbara. Fractions as we known can be difficult for a 5th grader, but I have enormous faith that in time and of course with a lot of study, our student will reach her understanding through a period of time spent with Barbara. Her test grades have improved within the la ...
