I am a retired teacher from the Department of Education. I have taught all grades from Pre-K to Grade 8. In my years of teaching I taught whole class lessons and small groups. I also taught individual students on various subjects who needed additional instruction.
I tutored students during my summer vacation by using a private tutoring agency. I did this for two years. The children were foster children who needed assistance in math and reading.
I attended Queens College for both of my degrees. (BA and MS in Education) I have 45 credits over my Masters Degree in various subjects and 24 credits in Special Education. I received these additional credits from Queens College, the College of Staten Island, and Bank Street College in New York.
I believe in teaching using the modalities of my students. Each child learns differently according to his learning style and I believe in teaching to that style.
If a child is an auditory learner I will provide lessons geared to his auditory learning style. If a child is kinesthetic then I will teach to that modality. If a child is visual then I will teach him or her to that modality. My objective is to teach the whole child to perfect his or her ability to master the subject he or she is having difficulty in. I believe in behavior modification and will set up a plan with the student and his or her family to reward behavior and learning.
