I am an educator with 18 years of experience from first grade through university levels. I hold a Ph.D in Chemistry from Columbia University. I am a passionate science and math teacher, of course. But I am also a voracious reader of everything from cheesy mysteries to history to science. I've written curriculum for literature teachers at middle and high school levels.
I believe that being successful in school and on standardized exams is a task we will accomplish together. I want you to have strategies for approaching any math problem or reading passage or tortured sentence that you will encounter. My job is to widen your view and increase your strategic arsenal.
My students describe me as funny, patient, and passionate about teaching and learning!
I have experience as both a teacher and a teacher coach helping prepare students for standardized English language tests and sections of college admissions tests. I believe that reading for meaning is key to success on the ACT English portion. I have successful strategies that have helped many of my students over the past few years!
I was considering Med school at an earlier time in my life, and took the MCAT. I scored 13 on the verbal section (the highest score given that testing cycle) 13s on both the biological and physical science sections, and an S on the writing sample. I also taught MCAT prep for Kaplan for one year in Denver, Colorado.
I have been a science teacher and a math teacher for more than 18 years. I believe that success on the math portion of the SAT requires learning how to approach multistep problems. I have strategies I've used in my classrooms that can help students find a way into any problem on the SAT!
