You want a tutor who knows her stuff. I've shown my enthusiasm for knowledge and my commitment to sharing that knowledge in a number of ways. First, I acquired three degrees, two of them from Ivy League Schools. Next, I competed on the game show Jeopardy! in 2010, winning four times and going to the Tournament of Champions. However, the most significant evidence of my tutoring abilities is my experience. I've been teaching and tutoring for nearly 20 years, working with students from kindergarten to college. I have helped kids improve their skills in writing, vocabulary, and test preparation and coached them through stressful times like writing papers, applying for high school, and taking the SAT. I try to make tutoring sessions as painless as possible while holding my students to a high standard of achievement. Working with me won't be easy (nothing important ever is) but if you do your best and trust me to help you, you will see your scores or grades improve.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Film

I have a Master of Fine Arts degree in film production from the Columbia University School of the Arts, where I made two short films (shot on 16mm) that I wrote, directed, and edited. I also wrote and directed a digital short a few years after graduating. These films have been screened in cities around the US, including New York, LA, San Diego, Chicago and Cleveland. I have worked as a film studies teacher and a gallery educator at the Museum of the Moving Image in Queens.

Theatre

As an undergraduate, I double-majored in English and theatre, completing both academic and practical work in theatre studies. I have subsequently continued to write, direct, and produce for the theatre in New York City. In 2012, my play was produced at the Looking Glass Theatre where it received awards for Best Playwright, Best Production, and Audience Choice. I have taught classes in theatre for children and teens in numerous summer and afterschool programs.

Writing

I have worked in a school for the gifted as an English teacher, with students who were being homeschooled as an English tutor, with seven-year-olds after school to improve their reading skills, and and with high school students preparing to write college application essays.
