I am currently working as a fifth grade teacher in the NYC public school system. I am fluent with the Common Core Standards at the elementary level and experienced in preparing students for the New York State Exams, both Math and ELA. During the 2013-2014 school year, I have attended workshops with a writer of the Common Core, and I was selected to represent my school at the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Annual Convention, a four-day conference event. My teaching experience paired with my professional development has helped me to implement best practices when teaching Math and ELA in the classroom.

I am passionate about teaching, and I love to tutor because it allows me to give students my one-on-one attention. I recognize that every student is unique and so are their needs. I like to begin by defining goals with my students and their parents. I will tailor my instruction to each student's individual goals and use the resources that are available to me as a teacher. I also like to help my students develop useful study habits and form productive routines that will help them be successful in their schoolwork for years to come. I have experience in tutoring students in elementary Math and ELA (K-6) as well as ELA, Writing, and ESL up to a high school level.

I received my Master's of Science in Teaching from Fordham University, where I also specialized in English as a Second Language (K-12). My undergraduate degree is in Applied Psychology and Writing. Before pursuing a teaching career, I worked many freelance writing jobs, mostly involving writing website content, press releases, and promotional materials for small businesses. I decided to become a teacher after doing volunteer work as an English Teacher in Salvador, Brazil. As English and Writing has always been a strength and a love of mine, I have tutored many students in Writing and even worked as a Peer Editor throughout college. As a Writing tutor, my previous experience includes assisting with grammar and essay structure, editing and self-assessment, research papers, college essays, resumes, and cover letters.

I am available to tutor weekdays after school and during the summer. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. I look forward to getting to know you and your child!
