Hi,

A versatile, journeyman student during my undergraduate and graduate days, my credentials include a Bachelors in Interdisciplinary Studies in Middle East Studies and a Masters in Anthropology.

As a writing consultant to upper-division Anthropology students during graduate school, I have developed expertise in writing and research skills for the discipline. My Masters thesis explores the affective practices of prayer among a city-dwelling population of born-again Christians in the South. If you need assistance with cultural theory or someone to brainstorm with for your Honors thesis or IRB protocol procedures, I can provide those services as well.

My undergraduate major was in Middle East Studies and I studied college-level Arabic for three years, including a study abroad in Egypt. Also feel free to contact me if you need assistance with reading, writing, speaking, or grammar concepts covered in the earlier portion of the Alif Baa/Al-Kitaab curriculum (up to the first half of Book 1 of Al-Kitaab).

My encounters with speakers of other languages, as well as my mother's background as an early childhood educator and ESOL instructor, have provided me a set of skills and resources that might prove helpful to children in early grades who need assistance in reading, writing, or vocabulary skills, and non-native English speakers of all ages.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Anthropology

I received my Master of Arts in Anthropology from Georgia State University in May 2013. During my time with the program, I also functioned as a Writing Consultant for one of the upper-division undergraduate courses, and my duties included assisting students with developing writing and library research skills for the discipline.

Archaeology

I received my Master of Arts in Anthropology from Georgia State University in May 2013. During my time with the program, I also functioned as a Writing Consultant for one of the upper-division undergraduate courses, and my duties included assisting students with developing writing and library research skills for the discipline. While my Masters thesis and the bulk of my coursework were in Cultural Anthropology, my program's faculty and student body were heavily Archaeology-oriented, and I took graduate coursework in Archaeological Theory and Methods.
