I'm a 5th grade teacher in NYC who happens to also be an award-winning filmmaker. I believe that we can make significant leaps in reading and math and have fun in the process.

I've worked with children across subject areas and continents, from Uganda, Nicaragua, Australia, to Haiti. I've spent several years teaching math and ELA in middle schools, several more as a K-6 teacher, and three as a technology staff developer across all schools in the NYC Department of Education.

I believe all students should, and certainly can be prepared and thus excel in both their ELA and math state exams, both of which are coming up on the calendar. New York State has set higher learning standards for all students and to reach these standards, the ELA test challenges students to demonstrate their ability to listen attentively, read a variety of materials, and respond in writing to literary and informational passages.

While I believe in hard work, the grit it takes to break through the hard parts, the struggles, and the plateaus, my tutor sessions have always been fun. Can you imagine fun tutor sessions? It happens.

I look forward to connecting!

I've managed a travel blog. I've also produced a travel series and blog on the Huffington Post/AOL called Travel Like a Boss, and produced various media for the travel vertical owned by AOL. I've run workshops dealing with the NYC Dept. of Ed. CMS for our schools.

Elementary (K-6th)

I've been a certified elementary teacher since 2005, the same year I earned my Master's in Education from Mercy College. I've taught every grade, pre-K-6 since then. I also taught Elementary and Middle School in Japan from 2001-2002 via the JET Program.

I've directed several films, including the award winning documenary film My Village and My Lobster, and I and have worked on several film projects out of Haiti and Uganda, and more recently a short doc out of Kentucky.

I've been using Mac computers for over 20 years. With my filmmaking career I've used Macs to edit video, create an array of presentations, navigate a range of programs, to working with codecs, to delivering professional development workshops on a range of topics.

In tandem with my filmmaking and producing career, I've also run photography workshops for the NYC Department of Education. "Photography in the Classroom", and "Digital Storytelling in the Classroom" are just two titles of workshops I've led utilizing the camera.

I've coached middle school students. I've also played soccer in High School and Middle School and in Japan. Additionally, I'm an avid soccer fan.

Social Studies

I taught Social Studies in different K-8 environments over the last 10 years. From working with at-risk middle school students (in ELA and Social Studies) to K-5 students in District 1 in New York, I've been able to engage our students in global/US history, as well as the ancient cultures of Greece and Egypt with 6th grade classes.

Study Skills

I've been a part-time coach for adults for about a year. Prior to this, I taught in District 79 in the NYC Dept. of Education, working with students on suspension from their home schools. This independent school, a part of the DOE, served children who had one or more infractions against them and were serving a suspension between 30 and 180 days. Teaching study skills, including time management, were paramount to the success of our program.

Table Tennis

I'm great at Table Tennis. I've played some of the best players in Japan the within New York. I'm also a great badminton player having dominated courts, both official and unofficial, from Brooklyn to Queens.

Video Production

I've been an active filmmaker for 8 years, working as a director and cinematographer, from the US to Nicaragua to Australia and Africa, I've worked in a variety of settings the world over. I would be happy to provide samples of my work upon request.
