I offer tutoring in seven subject areas: photography (technical strategies, editing, creative input and feedback, and history), Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom, English, Grammar, Public Speaking and Writing. I have worked as a tutor for over three years and previously have taught photography portfolio workshops at various photo festivals around the world.

As a portrait and seasoned editorial photographer, I feel that I am an insightful communicator, possessing a special talent that makes a diverse group of individuals feel comfortable, not only in front of the lens, but also behind the lens. I have years of experience in the classroom and in the field with both groups and one on one. I have worked with students of all ages, and I enjoy inspiring my students with their own projects. Although, I specialize in portrait documentary photography, I have experience with and am always inspired with landscape, still life and studio photography.

Over the years, I have mentored many NYC students from schools such as New Ymanyork University's Tisch School of the Arts, School of Visual Arts, Parsons and Pratt Institute. I have lectured about my published photography books and my working process at most of the NYC universities and colleges, including the International Center of Photography, as well as Yale University in Connecticut. I have exhibited and lectured about my work for over 10 years both here and internationally in museums, galleries and photo festivals. I am also the recipient of several grants and awards for my long term projects. Presently, my work is in two museum collections at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and in the largest contemporary photo collection at Le Musee de la Photographie in Charleroi, Belgium.

I am a graduate New York University with a BFA from the Tisch School of the Arts in Photography. Over the years, I have been published in The New York Times, The Courrier-International, The British Journal of Photography, Max Magazine and other magazines. I am represented by Contact Press Images in both NYC and Paris.

My nonfiction writing is a part of my creative process, and I am a highly skilled writing coach and editor. My writing has been published both online and in my photography books. I have worked for the last three years with a variety of students with different needs including: college students seeking help in grammar, vocabulary and academic writing skills, a screenplay writer, students needing assistance with college application essays and several artists working on personal statements. I am very versatile and I am just as passionate about teaching writing skills, as I am about teaching photography.

I am also highly skilled in both Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop and am happy to teach beginners as well as intermediate students. I have been working with Photoshop for almost ten years and in Lightroom for about three years. I love to make both of these programs accessible and fun to learn for my students. I also work as a photo retoucher for private clients working in both analog and digital formats.

Feel free to look at my gallery of personal work, student reviews, and my blog.

Please, note that WyzAnt will only allow me to upload images to my profile gallery that are cropped to their specifications. Therefore, you are not seeing the whole photograph, but a cropped version. If you get in touch with me, I will be more than happy to send you the full framed versions of both my analog and digital photography.

Thanks for stopping by! I look forward to hearing from you!!

Juliana replied on 10/28/2013

Thank you Erin! You have been an amazing student and have learned far more than I actually thought you would be able to do in a short time. I really have enjoyed working with you and will be sad when our time together is finished. You have taught me the importance of working on pronunciation and the simple importance of making a student grasp the phonetics of the Italian language. I wish you a very good trip to Italy!!

If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Adobe Lightroom

I have been working in Lightroom for 2 years after I changed over from being an analog to a digital photographer. I can't stress the importance of learning this program because it will ultimately, help you organize your photographs, catalog them and make the edit and retouching process so much easier.

I presently am teaching two students how to use most of the features necessary to really make the most of this application. I love teaching both Lightroom and Photoshop because I have 25+ years working as a photographer and I can see how important it is to every photographer's work flow.

I am new to WyzAnt, but please, check out my student Bonnie's review of my work with her. I will make you enthusiastic to learn this program because I am enthusiastic. I will bring that energy to our sessions and always watch your back. I am not just a technician, but a photographer with a keen and experienced eye and this will help you when I teach you Lightroom or Photoshop.

I can't stress the importance of learning this program because it will ultimately, help you organize your photographs, catalog them and make the edit and retouching process so much easier.

I am working with Photoshop latest program which is Photoshop CC or Cloud. I am happy to teach you if you have a earlier version.

Photography

I graduated from New York University at Tisch School of the Arts in 1990 with a BFA in Photography. I have worked as a freelance photographer and a fine art photographer for 25+ years. I have two books published of my photographer.

My work has been shown in galleries and festivals here and abroad. I presently am represented by Contact Press Images. As a teacher, I have taught several portfolio workshops and I have lectured many times. I am knowledgeable of both digital and analog cameras. And I am proficient in Photoshop and Lightroom.

Public Speaking

I graduated from New York University in 1990 with a BFA in photography. During my 4 years of university, I took one class in public speaking and prepared and delivered many lectures for my classes. After graduating university, I privately studied public speaking in NYC at the Public Speaking Center of NY with the director, Charles D. I completed the course and since then I am a confident, very experienced and engaging public speaker.

Over the years, I have not only done over a dozen public presentations and lectures about my personal work as an artist, but have spoken alone and on panels about various aspects of documentary and fine art photography.

As an artist, I have been asked to give public presentations about my photography and speak in front of large groups of people. I have given presentations at the following universities and colleges: New York University, School of Visual Arts, Yale University, Parsons, The New School and the International School of Photography. I have also given lectures and spoken on several panels about my work and on about photography at several festivals in Woodstock, Rome, Sete, France, and in Utrecht, Holland.

I have also held several workshops on photography and worked with large groups of students both in Italy and in Mexico City, Mexico. I am very comfortable in front of groups of students and I enjoy teaching others to overcome their basic fears of speaking publicly.

Writing

I am a published author and photographer. As a writer and artist, I have spent many years working on successful grant proposals that have captured the attention of several organizations that have funded my projects. My non fiction writing has also been featured in several national and international magazines and on the internet.

Over the last two years, I have worked as a private writing coach with several college students on their writing skills and helped them develop their ability to become better writers. I love to write and I absolutely love to teach young writers to overcome any challenges or writing blocks so, that they can become better communicators in the English language.

Great tutor! Highly recommend! — Juliana is amazing teacher, great photographer and very interesting person. Not every teacher has passion for teaching but she definitely does. She has great experience in both photography and teaching and that made our lesson very interesting and time just flew. I learned a lot in just one 2 hour lesson and I am looking forward for our next class. She came to the class well prepared, much better ...
