I have lived in many different countries: Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Italy and Afghanistan. I love to teach kids and adults English. I like to use games and songs and lots of handouts. I think teaching ESL is an important responsibility. It is a way to help people integrate into American culture and to acquire a crucial life skill; one that improves lives, creates opportunities for individuals and enriches our shared culture.
I believe education should be transformative not merely informative. Teaching for me, is more than simply relating information, it is about creating relationships with students that allow the student to be a 'co-creator of knowledge'. It is about context based content with careful consideration of each student's unique experiences.
I have a bachelor's degree from Evergreen State College, a progressive, non-traditional college in the Pacific Northwest where I studied education and humanities. I have tutored SAT and ESL English in Olympia, WA and I have lived and taught in Thailand.
I look forward to meeting many new students here in the greatest city in the world, NYC!
