I've spent the last six years teaching in South Korea, the Czech Republic, and Saudi Arabia. I've worked with students as young as 4 and as old as 60, in a wide variety of cultural and educational settings. I've worked at public schools, the top university in the Middle East, and for private companies where I focused on business English, designing programs for young learners, and one-on-one tutoring. I've learned a lot about how to best motivate kids, and how to work with them to help them realize their personal and academic goals.
Reading has been a lifelong passion for me, but I always considered it a private pursuit. Then I began teaching it to adolescent students in South Korea. Watching them slowly put the pieces into place, and seeing the thrill of discovery as they moved from incomprehension to understanding to excitement was deeply satisfying. I’ve since worked with university students and older adults, and found that they faced many of the same obstacles, but also experienced some of the same joy as they began to make connections in developing active literacy in English. I also focus on writing, test preparation, and other skills. I really look forward to working with new students and helping them reach their full potential.
