My main focus is on tutoring students to improve their creative writing, essay writing, and journalism skills. I'm also glad to tutor students interested in literature, current events, or the various standardized tests that they will need to game.

I studied creative writing at Columbia University, wrote video scripts for The Onion, and worked as a reporter and sports editor for a hyper-local weekly paper in my hometown. While at The Onion, I worked as a staff writer for a cable TV show, and as the head writer and director of a web-sries. I direct and coach sketch comedy groups on occasion, and work as a freelance comedy writer.

As a writing coach, I can draw on my diverse experience to find a writing style suited to the task at hand, and work with the student to develop an original voice. Technical skill is important, but the heart of good writing is something the author really believes and cares about. When writing ceases to be a chore, the results improve.

Aside from writing, I can also tutor students on academic subjects and test prep. Personally, I have a genuine love of learning. I often found school tedious, but the subjects themselves fascinating. The world is an interesting place, and people are interesting. I want to help students discover what's interesting about what they're studying. I have always been able to see things from a variety of perspectives, and attack a problem from multiple angles, so I work to get on the same page with students and explain problems in a way that fits their intellectual style.

Whatever the subject, I aim to understand the concepts thoroughly enough to be able to give a simple, but deeply accurate answer to any question. It sometimes takes more knowledge to give a good simple explanation than a complex one.

Professionalism is very important to me. I'll always show up on time and prepared, be fully engaged with the job, and keep my own ego out of it.

If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
