I am a professional artist working in multiple medium, including drawing, watercolor, video, sculpture and photography. I offer lessons to children and adults interested in art, aiming to build and strengthen their technical skills and creative process. I have been teaching art for 10 years, working with students from elementary school to college level students, focusing on drawing, watercolor painting and conceptual art. I enjoy teaching tremendously, and am always attentive to the particular interest and the unique talent in each student.
I was a teacher in the after-school program and the early college program during my undergraduate and graduate studies. After graduating from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, I was a full-time lecturer at the Academy of Visual Arts in Hong Kong for four years, before I started focusing on my own artistic development, traveling around the world, participating in exhibitions and artist residencies. I have gained great experiences through my traveling and teaching, constantly fascinated by the rich arts and culture I see wherever I go. Therefore, my teaching philosophy aims to build and continue the curiosity in art and culture. My tutoring method mixes fundamental skill development with experimental medium exploration, as well as art history, allowing students to build a strong technical foundation with an open creative mind.
I offer tutoring for kids and adults in New York metro area. My classes are tailored to individual student's ability and interest. I could put together specific workshops, such as a four-class stop-motion animation workshop I once designed for one of my eight-year-old students. I also teach medium specific classes, honing technical skills in drawing and watercolor.
I am available for drawing and watercolor lessons weekdays and weekends. And if you have a particular project or interest you like to explore and develop please let me know, so that I could put together lessons specific to your area of focus.
Please feel free to contact me if you like to see my teaching portfolio or my artist portfolio, or would like to start making art together.
