Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Common Core

I ran a tutoring program for students aged 6-14. I am well-versed in the foundations of math along with test prep. I tutor higher level math as well such as geometry and algebra.

Elementary (K-6th)

In college, I ran a tutoring program called "Cross Street Tutoring," through a local church. I tutored students K-8 that included subjects such as English, history, math, language, social studies and writing. I was the president of this program for two years.

Microsoft Outlook

I have worked in an office setting for over two years where Microsoft Outlook is an essential part of my daily routine. I can teach students the basics from reading and sorting mail to formatting emails. I am also adept at using Outlook's more complex features such as creating signatures, attaching hyperlinks and setting up of office messages.

Regents

For the past four months, I have been tutoring for the Regents exams. My students have ranged in age from 9 to 15. We have reviewed good practices for successful standardized test-taking ranging in skills from process of elimination to vocabulary.

Social Studies

I tutored social studies throughout college for students K-8. I majored in sociology while taking coursework in anthropology, biology, history and psychology. I also took biology courses to supplement my social science background to have a more well-rounded understanding of the social sciences.

Sociology

I majored in sociology at Wesleyan University. I took a significant breadth and depth of coursework ranging from social theory to quantitative analysis. My specific interest was in the sociology of education. I wrote my senior essay on the relationship between biomedicine and alternative medicine in American culture.

Study Skills

As a mentor to children ages 6-14 with a range of personalities, I was able to adapt mentorship on study skills to each individual. I specialize in teaching students time management along with skills that will increase focus and efficiency. My approach to study skills lies in the balance between efficiency in completion and quality of work.
