I am a PhD candidate at NYU in Chemical Engineering, in my last few months before completing. I have learned that I enjoy teaching from years of tutoring, on the Middle School, High School and College levels. I feel that imparting knowledge is a prerequisite to truly master one's fields of study; I can personally attest to that.
My teaching skills have developed over the past 15 years starting as a tutor at the Borough of Manhattan Community College, in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and C++. As a private tutor, I continued working with college-level students and I began working with high school students as well. During my PhD training, I have also had the pleasure and advantage of teaching on the college level as a teaching assistant both in classroom and lab settings. Also during my graduate studies, I helped to introduce science and technology to NYC public school students. This was part of a National Science Foundation GK-12 initiative to promote STEM through integration of the existing curriculum with my PhD level research, using robotics & mechatronics. This offered me the unique opportunity to communicate field-specific concepts to untrained audiences.
Finally, I am constantly refining my knowledge base and equally learning new concepts; this puts me in a position where I must adapt a pedagogical perspective in both sides of education. I think this approach is valuable in that it makes the student a producer as well as a consumer of knowledge. This is important in developing academic proficiency and independence. One of my many goals is pass this on to my students.
