I am a PhD candidate at NYU in Chemical Engineering, in my last few months before completing. I have learned that I enjoy teaching from years of tutoring, on the Middle School, High School and College levels. I feel that imparting knowledge is a prerequisite to truly master one's fields of study; I can personally attest to that.

My teaching skills have developed over the past 15 years starting as a tutor at the Borough of Manhattan Community College, in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and C++. As a private tutor, I continued working with college-level students and I began working with high school students as well. During my PhD training, I have also had the pleasure and advantage of teaching on the college level as a teaching assistant both in classroom and lab settings. Also during my graduate studies, I helped to introduce science and technology to NYC public school students. This was part of a National Science Foundation GK-12 initiative to promote STEM through integration of the existing curriculum with my PhD level research, using robotics & mechatronics. This offered me the unique opportunity to communicate field-specific concepts to untrained audiences.

Finally, I am constantly refining my knowledge base and equally learning new concepts; this puts me in a position where I must adapt a pedagogical perspective in both sides of education. I think this approach is valuable in that it makes the student a producer as well as a consumer of knowledge. This is important in developing academic proficiency and independence. One of my many goals is pass this on to my students.

Please contact me, if you feel that I may be a good match. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me by email.

Good luck with your search.

Differential Equations

Differential equations are everywhere! The applications are so ubiquitous, that biologists make regular use of them. I can get students to understand from the very basic to the more advanced topics in the subject. My teaching style relies heavily on intuitive real-life examples. I have been using differential equation models in my PhD research on DNA surface-hybridization kinetics for more than 5 years. In addition, I have used ODE's, PDE's, DAE's, and SDE's in other mathematical modeling projects and/or courses for well over a decade.

I am familiar with the numerical methods used in software packages and analytical solutions. For example, I have used stochastic differential equations in financial engineering applications, and successfully implemented these models using numerical software packages such as Matlab, Python with Scipy & Numpy. Most importantly, I can teach what I know!

MATLAB

I can teach you MATLAB! MATLAB is a prototyping language that leverages the matrix data versus looping, for speed. The program seems difficult at first because of this data type, but after a few introductory lessons, you will be on your way to working with on of the more popular, useful, and powerful mathematical development packages.

I began using MATLAB & Simulink in 2003, as a requirement for a process control & dynamics chemical engineering course. Since then I have actively used MATLAB & Simulink to numerically solve many problems and equations in: statistics & probability, financial engineering, classical mathematical physics & engineering, image processing. I also have extensive experience with optimization problems including gradient, direct-search, and meta-heuristic methods such as swarm and genetic algorithms.

I have experience with development of standalone MATLAB executables (.exe) running on the MATLAB Runtime Compiler, without a full installation. I have many coding examples of this.

I also worked as an independent contractor, where MATLAB development was the major role.
