I'm a sincere, caring and humorous individual who has been teaching for a dozen years now as a high school math teacher. Besides teaching the typical Regents prep class for algebra or geometry, I also have experience teaching GED classes for 3 years, SAT prep classes after school for over 4 years and have tutored elementary school students from grades 3 to 8.
No matter what level, I stress reading the question carefully in order to build experience, confidence and comprehension. Getting organized through tables or diagrams as well as equation building. I reinforce the idea of checking answers to verify that the question has been answered rather than assuming or using Mental Math. Most importantly I find building a comfortable rapport with each student helps them establish their abilities. Laughter is also a great relaxer and often speak to their life interests to show how math can interact with many parts of everyday life, without even realizing it. For example, where's the math in the Pledge of Allegiance?
