Hello. Nice to meet you! Japanese language is my passion and teaching Japanese allows me to share my love of this language with others. I have almost 7 years of Japanese language experience and I have been teaching Japanese for the past 3 years. I have 3 Japanese language certifications (JLPT) and I am pursuing 2 more. My teaching includes: on-site corporate Japanese language training for groups, small classes and I also do one-on-one private lessons for individuals.

My students all receive a comprehensive learning package: Reading, Writing and Speaking. I teach the Japanese kana (their syllabary which works like an alphabet) from the very start. Once that is solid, we move onto actual Japanese characters (kanji), grammar, pronunciation and conversation. We use an excellent textbook that my students have been quite pleased with. This textbook has the distinction of being the only Japanese textbook in the United States that is also used by native Japanese students in Japan. And I even incorporate Japanese children's books, comics (manga), video games and phone apps as a way to engage my students and get them excited for Japanese!

So, why sign up with me? My philosophy is that Beginners need somebody who can teach them the very basics and truly explain Japanese language concepts in English, thus creating a bridge from English to Japanese. Knowing the language of the student is the key to teaching.

I am also flexible with my teaching schedule and can accommodate students when they need to move a lesson to a different time because of school, work or family obligations. Make-up classes policy: in special circumstances, students who go away for the week for either vacation or another personal reason can potentially be eligible to have a Skype session. But please keep in mind that a weekly or biweekly in-person commitment is mandatory for my class. This is for both legal reasons and because teaching tends to be more effective in-person.

Thank you for reading my profile and I look forward to working with you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Japanese

I have been doing Japanese for over six years now, and I have multiple Japanese language certifications under my belt. I have been teaching Japanese for over three years, and I have both children and adults who are currently studying with me. In fact, one of my recent graduates has even been accepted to a job position in Japan.
