Hello fellow students and parents.

My name is Anton and I have been nicknamed math-guy by many of my friends.

I am a recent graduate of NYU-Poly with a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics and minors in Finance and Computer Science. I also graduated from Saunders Trade and Technical High School as a Chemistry major. While in college, I served as a teacher's assistant where I received hands on experience in leading a class of students and teaching them in a particular subject area. I am Water Safety Instructor certified and have experience working with all ages teaching swim lessons on a part time basis at the Mark Twain pool for the last 5 years. During the summers, I also taught private lessons at children's houses.

I am lucky to also have a younger sister that is 11 years old and has gone through the PEARLS math system. I have been her personal tutor since she first started school so I have experience with preteens and their stubbornness. In college, I also helped many of my friends in some of the difficult math courses by organizing study groups on the weekends.

Some of the courses I specialize in include all levels of high school math (algebra, calculus, pre-calculus, statistics, geometry, etc) and SAT math. In college, I have taken many Probability courses including the actuarial exam math however it is not my strongest area. I also achieved high scores on the AP exams (5 in calculus, 4 in stat), the SAT and SAT 2s (740 regular math, 710 on both math I and II) and Regents exams (98 in Math A, 97 in Math B). Needless to say, math has always come easy to me and I love to help others master the subject through fun examples.

Some of my hobbies include swimming, ping-pong, chess, and watching sports on TV. I have been able to relate my hobbies with related questions in math pretty well with my sister (although she doesn't appreciate it as much as a boy would). I also love stand-up comedy and I like to make jokes to lighten the studying and relieve test anxiety.

I am available weeknights and weekends as of January 2013 and am easy to get a hold of. Please allow 24 hours in advance if canceling due to my work schedule being pretty tough.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Chess

I have been playing chess since I was 5 years old. I have competed in many tournaments throughout my life, placing in the top 3 five times. My team won the chess tournament held at PEARLS in 2005. I have also taught my sister how to play and can introduce many different strategies for students.

Swimming

I have been WSI certified since 2008 and have worked as a swim instructor at Yonkers Parks and Recreation since 2008. I have taught swimmers of all ages including adults and teenagers. I specialize in swim team training and higher level swimmers
