Hi,

My name is Rob. I graduated from Wesleyan University in 2012, where I studied philosophy & sociology. While at Wesleyan, I tutored for Upward Bound, helping minority youth with school work and college applications. I currently work for two other national tutoring companies as a tutor in mathematics and humanities. I have now been a tutor for over five years and believe that I'd be perfect for you or your child.

I have plenty of work experience with high school and middle school students, especially with standardized testing and essay writing. I have a thorough understanding of mathematics up to calculus, and am especially patient when returning to basics is the best way forward. I am a big philosophy reader, so I would say that I'm not only well read, but can definitely help your child learn to read more efficiently. Finally, as an honors thesis writer, I am especially great for essay prep and college and/or scholarship essays.

Whatever the needs, I am here to help you or your child, and unlock hidden potential for success.

-Rob

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

American History

I love American history. It was my favorite subject all through primary school, and stayed one of my favorite subjects through college. I have taken a variety of American history courses at Wesleyan and continue to help high school students with their class homework for two different tutoring agencies.

I could tutor your child in a variety of ways. I could teach them study methods conducive to retaining more historical information, or I can help them do research and prepare outlines for historical essays.

College Counseling

I do college counseling for the juniors at the GCD (Geriatric Career Development) program and have done so for juniors in the Upward Bound program for three years.

As a HS graduate, I was accepted into 13 of 14 schools, and believe that I have an effective strategy and gauge on what type of students these elite universities and colleges want for their student body.

English

As a graduate of Saint Ann's School and Wesleyan University, as well as a Prep For Prep Alumni, I am a rather well read tutor, with a strong understanding of philosophical undertones of any piece of literature that I've read.

If I have read the book that you or your child are looking to work on, I would be an ideal tutor, capable of helping you to prepare for essays, better understand the text, or learn more efficient methods of reading and jotting that will help you better grasp the narrative and the author's point of view and intentions.

As a humanities tutor for three national tutoring companies, my primary focus is to proofread all written work. Having done proof reading for six years, and writing an honors thesis, I am something of a grammar stickler.

I would be an ideal tutor if you or your child aspire to have a stronger grasp of English grammar or if you would like to have me proofread an essay.

Government & Politics

I love American history. It was my favorite subject all through primary school, and stayed one of my favorite subjects through college. My area of focus was always government politics and political theory.

I could tutor your child in a variety of ways. I could teach them how our system of government works, aid them in the reading and understanding of political philosophy or I could help them do research and prepare outlines for essays.

Grammar

As a humanities tutor for three national tutoring companies, my primary focus is to proofread all written work. Having done proof reading for six years, and writing an honors thesis, I am something of a grammar stickler.

I would be an ideal tutor if you or your child aspire to have a stronger grasp of English grammar.

Literature

As a graduate of Saint Ann's School and Wesleyan University, as well as a Prep For Prep Alumni, I am a rather well read tutor, with a strong understanding of philosophical undertones of any piece of literature that I've read.

If I have read the book that you or your child are looking to work on, I would be an ideal tutor, capable of helping you to prepare for essays, better understand the text, or learn more efficient methods of reading and jotting that will help you better grasp the narrative and the author's point of view and intentions.

Philosophy

My interest in philosophy is tied almost entirely to critical and social theory, anything having to do with Marx, Foucault, Nietzsche, Durkheim, The Frankfurt School, Post-Modernism, Post Leftist, Media Theory, The New School, Etc.

Proofreading

As a humanities tutor for Launch Education, Upward Bound, and Tutor Doctor, my primary focus is to proofread all written work. Having done proof reading for six years, and writing an honors thesis, I am a student's best friend after the completion of an essay.

$30 flat fee per essay, regardless of how many drafts you have me correct.

Psychology

I was a psychology major up until my last year of college, when I missed the major completion by a stats course. I am well read and versed in psychology and its jargon. As a patient, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable tutor, I believe I could help your child to achieve a masterful understanding of psychology.

Reading

A sociology major and honors thesis writer. I have various techniques to both read faster and more efficiently in order to maximize understanding and retention. I believe I'd be a beneficial tutor for your child.

Sociology

I majored in sociology at Wesleyan University. I taught two sociology classes while I was there and graduated with departmental honors. I am very comfortable with a variety of sociological texts, especially critical and social theory. My primary area of research in sociology, however, is post-leftist studies.

Spanish

Fluent native Spanish speaker, but I have also taken Spanish all throughout high school in order to perfect my writing ability. Great at test prep, homework help and vocabulary retention.

Spelling

Ever since I got third place in the district spelling bee while attending the fifth grade, competing against middle school students, I have been an expert spell checker. I am very patient and enthusiastic and believe I would be a beneficial tutor for your child.

Vocabulary

I tutor SAT vocabulary for two private programs in NYC, and graduated a sociology major. My vocabulary is quite expansive, and I have a solid grasp of word roots. I believe I would be a great vocab tutor for your child.

Writing

I have been a humanities tutor for six years now, and I am an expert essay writer. I can help better you or your child better prepare for writing, improve grammar skills, and develop more of a flow when writing.
