Hi,

My name is Robert E. I just graduated from Wesleyan University, where I studied sociology and minored in music. While at Wesleyan, I tutored for Upward Bound, helping minority youth with school work and college applications. I currently work for two other national tutoring companies as a tutor in mathematics and humanities. I have now been a tutor for five years and believe that I'd be perfect for you or your child.

I have plenty of work experience with high school and middle school students, especially with standardized testing and essay writing. I have a thorough understanding of mathematics up to calculus, and am especially patient when returning to basics is the best way forward. I am a big philosophy reader, so I would say that I'm not only well read, but can definitely help your child learn to read more efficiently. Finally, as an honors thesis writer and an essay specialist for the GCD program in Harlem, I am especially great for essay prep and college and/or scholarship essays.

Chinese

Although I am not a native speaker, I took mandarin Chinese for four years in high school and for one year in college. I have also spent my junior summers (both HS and College) in Beijing and Shanghai respectively. This range of experience has made me very comfortable with Mandarin, however, given my seldom use of the language, I only feel comfortable tutoring in first year Mandarin, with a primary focus on speaking and vocabulary (versus writing characters).

College Counseling

I do college counseling for the juniors at the GCD (Geriatric Career Development) program and have done so for juniors in the Upward Bound program for three years.

As a HS graduate, I was accepted into 13 of 14 schools, and believe that I have an effective strategy and gauge on what type of students these elite universities and colleges want for their student body.

Sociology

I majored in sociology at Wesleyan University. I taught two sociology classes while I was there and graduated with departmental honors. I am very comfortable with a variety of sociological texts, especially critical and social theory. My primary area of research in sociology, however, is post-leftist studies.
