Great day parents, students and guardians,

You have found a great tutor for your student. I am patient, creative, consistent and I truly understand how to teach my content area, mathematics. I am a middle school mathematics teacher and have been for the past 12 years. I enjoy watching my students' thinking wheels begin to turn and brain bulb illuminate. They're thinking, learning, questioning; they're creating their own knowledge and understanding of the task at hand. I believe in teaching math through manipulatives, real world experiences and Art. It is my goal to give my students all the tools they need to understand and persevere through any math task they're given. I am also a NYS Common Core Fellow. Thus, I am very well versed in the New York State Common Core Learning Standards in mathematics.

I began tutoring in 2006. Once I begin working with a student or group of students I usually stay with them until they've graduated from high school. It's a really wonderful feeling of accomplishment.

Lastly, I am the proud mother of a New York City High School Advanced Regents Diploma graduate. My son is now in his second year of college studying to become an architect.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

When I was in school I remember feeling like X and Y belonged in English class and not Math. I struggled to figure out why the value of the variables kept changing and what their value was at any given time. I know how it feels to try and try but still feel lost in a class. I teach and tutor from that perspective. I am really patient and very thorough with my approach to teaching conceptual and procedural Algebra.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am an NYS/NYC licensed elementary (N-6) teacher and a mathematics (7-12) teacher. I have been a licensed teacher since 2001. I am also a parent of a college student who I coached all the way through to an advanced regents diploma. I am patient. I know my content areas and I am consistent with my approach to teaching and learning. It's very easy for me to communicate important skills, concepts and ideas to students and parents alike. Young children usually get bored with the rudimentary rote learning approach. I approach tutoring from the perspective of it being fun and engaging.

Elementary Math

The hardest part of Elementary Math is trying to figure out fractions. Most students comment "I just don't get it". I can make what seems like the most confusing aspects of fractions, division, ratios, rates, rounding, estimating and more feel; like a breeze. Sometimes personalized help is the little push a student needs. Students must be able to persevere through and make sense of the exam.
