Hello! I'm a student in Hunter College's MA program in teaching English to speakers of other languages. In my program, I'm learning the most effective ways to help English learners improve their speaking, reading, and writing skills. My coursework includes important instruction on teaching speaking and listening, the structure of English, and assessing progress. As a result, I am familiar with many issues that English learners must overcome and how to help people learn more effectively.
Outside of my studies, I tutor individuals and groups at a community college in New York. My students come from a variety of language backgrounds and have different levels of English proficiency. I have experience helping students with writing (word choice, essay organization, content) and grammar in particular. I have also done some proofreading for a doctoral student who is a non-native English speaker.
Before attending Hunter College, I received my BA from McGill University in 2010, where I studied linguistics, psychology and German. My background in linguistics and language learning taught me how to approach language teaching/learning from a clear and logical perspective.
