I have a BA in English from Beloit College, a private liberal arts institution in Wisconsin, an MLS from Queens College, and a partially completed M.Ed. from Long Island University. I currently work as an English tutor and substitute instructor for a local college. I have worked as an educator for the entirety of my professional career, and other positions I have held include: English tutor for elementary and middle school students; mathematics tutor for elementary and middle school students; English teacher for middle school students; resource room teacher for students with special needs; and a District 75 teacher for students with severe handicaps.
Notable accomplishments include:
50 percent increase in mathematics ability, as measured by pre-testing with the previous grade level test versus post-testing with the current grade level test.
Mainstreaming of one 4th grade student who was in special education prior to working with me.
Glowing recommendations from students and parents for my affability, flexibility, and skill set.
My style as an educator is one that frequently uses novel approaches to reach students needing a push in the right direction. I am open to using non-traditional methods when beneficial, and have taught reading comprehension through the utilization of biographies of professional wrestlers; mathematics skills through the use of online games; and possess expertise in differentiation, reaching students where they best can be met.
I am willing to travel anywhere within the five boroughs of New York City, and for an additional fee to cover transportation costs, to Nassau, Westchester, or the Newark metro area.
