I am a classically trained singer with a Master of Music from UMASS Amherst and a Bachelor of Music from the New England Conservatory of Music. I am also a certified yoga teacher in the ISHTA Method of yoga. I also have a very strong music theory background.
I approach music and yoga in the same fashion, having it be as enjoyable as possible. Teaching is one of the greatest joys and I am so grateful when I get the opportunity to pass along knowledge in these great fields.
My methods for teaching are making it fun. Being able to laugh when mistakes are made, after all, we learn the most after we make mistakes.
For Voice training- I usually have the student sing a piece and assess the voice, I then create warm ups and select repertoire that suit the individual needs of the student.
For Music Theory Training - I use simple chord progressions to illustrate how music moves from note to note and chord to chord all combining to make a piece of music.
For Sight Singing training - I use the fixed do method of Solfege to help the students learn the notes. As for what Solfege is, think of the "Do a Deer" song in The Sound of Music.
For Yoga - I bring blocks, blankets and a strap and a mat, if needed, to help one modify poses to fit their body. I also use breathing and meditation techniques throughout the lesson to help the student free the mind and body.
