Education is my passion! I love teaching Global History and American History, as well as Language Arts (reading, writing, vocabulary). I have over 12 years of teaching and tutoring experience. I have taught middle and high school students in a range of subjects. My training and professional development has allowed me the opportunity to embrace and share methods for teaching study skills and test preparation (NY State ELA/Math exams and Regents exams). I have also tutored elementary students (grades 4 & 5) in Math, ELA, and Social Studies for various after-school programs. I have a BA in Economics and an MS in Educational Administration. I also hold am MDiv, graduating Summa Cum Laude, as well as an STM. I am qualified to teach Religion, Theology, and Church History. I am extremely patient and recognize that students learn through varying modalities. I work to empower students based on how they learn and teach them to maximize their learning styles. Cornell-style note taking is a method that I utilize, as well as encourage a Socratic questioning method, which allows students to discover answers and solve problems. Essay writing, grammar, sentence structure, proof-reading, vocabulary, reading, and reading comprehension are areas that I have successfully tutored students in. Graduating with a Regents diploma and teaching Regents subjects to Middle and High School students make me fully aware and capable of assisting students who are facing the same challenges. Failure is not an option with me!! We will work together and diligently to enhance and accentuate the skills necessary for success! Time spent with me will be time well spent!

American History

As a NY State certified Social Studies teacher I have taught US History. My students have successfully passed their Regents exams. I teach test-taking skills and am well versed in DBQ (document-based questions) and Thematic essays formation, composition, and writing.

Vocabulary

Students who participated in my AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) college preparatory classes (grades 6-12), were exposed to and challenged to learn SAT words and their Latin roots. Engaging with this practice, increased word recognition, spelling, and usage, as students became familiar and comfortable with words/vocabulary.

Reading

As a NY State certified teacher and supervisor my experience with Reading ranges from grades 6-12. I implemented and trained teachers how to teach reading for comprehension, identifying main idea, word recognition, context clues, and work in various genres. My students were exposed to a variety of literature, based on their reading levels and over time increased those levels where applicable.

Writing

I have taught Writing (in content specific classes) to students grades 6-12. This writing included essays, research papers (with bibliography), narratives, poems, dialogues, articles, simple and complex sentences, reflections, speeches, and paragraphs. World History

As a NY State certified Social Studies teacher I have taught Global (World) history. My students have taken and passed their Regents exams and created projects and thesis papers.

Religion

As an ordained clergyperson with a Master of Divinity and Master of Sacred Theology degrees, I have considered deeply religion and religious studies. As a World History teacher, I have taught the major religions of the world in depth. I have also created a comparative study on religion and enjoy instructing and engaging students in their understanding of religion.

Bible Studies

As an ordained Methodist clergyperson, my experience and education qualify me. I have earned a Master of Divinity degree and a Master of Sacred Theology degree. I have been constructing curricula for Sunday schools and Bible studies for local churches for more than 10 years. I created a blog and Theology curriculum for adult learners. It was engaging and interactive and informative. I love the Bible and am well-versed in Scripture.

Regents

As a high school teacher, I taught students the skills necessary to successful completion of their Regents exams. There are basic test-taking skills and strategies that are required for achieving a passing grade and I have been able to accomplish that.

Series 63

As a stockbroker, I studied extensively and exhaustively for and passed the Series 63 exam. My personal preparation and successful completion qualifies me to teach this subject.

Series 7

As a stockbroker, I studied extensively and exhaustively for and passed the Series 7 exam. My personal preparation and successful completion qualifies me to teach this subject.

Social Studies

I am a NYS certified teacher of Social Studies, having completed all the educational requirements defined by the NYSED, as well as the examination for permanent certification. I have taught Global (world) History, US History, Geo-Politics, and Geography and created curriculua for the stated courses.
